John Sherman
John Sherman (May 10, 1823October 22, 1900) was an American politician from Ohio who served in federal office throughout the Civil War and into the late nineteenth century. A member of the Republican Party, he served in both houses of the U.S. Congress. He also served as Secretary of the Treasury and Secretary of State. Sherman sought the Republican presidential nomination three times, coming closest in 1888, but was never chosen by the party. Born in Lancaster, Ohio, Sherman later moved to Mansfield, Ohio, where he began a law career before entering politics. He was the younger brother of Union general William Tecumseh Sherman, with whom he had a close relationship. Initially a Whig, Sherman was among those anti-slavery activists who formed what became the Republican Party. He served three terms in the House of Representatives. Lawrence Yates Sherman (November 8, 1858 – September 15, 1939) was a Republican Party (United States), Republican politician from the State of Illinois. He served as United States Senator, the List of lieutenant governors of Illinois, 28th Lieutenant Governor, and as Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives. Sherman is best known for his role in preventing the ratification of the Treaty of Versailles, which kept the United States out of the League of Nations. Roger Sherman
Roger Sherman (April 19, 1721 – July 23, 1793) was an early American politician, lawyer, and a Founding Father of the United States. He is the only person to sign all four great state papers of the United States: the Continental Association, the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the Constitution. He also signed the 1774 Petition to the King. Born in Newton, Massachusetts, Sherman established a legal career in Litchfield County, Connecticut, despite a lack of formal education. After a period in the Connecticut House of Representatives, he served as a justice of the Superior Court of Connecticut from 1766 to 1789. Alpheus Sherman
Alpheus Sherman (September 23, 1780 in Rochester, Plymouth County, Massachusetts – January 12, 1866 in Spring Valley, Rockland County, New York) was an American lawyer and politician from New York. Benjamin F. Sherman (November 30, 1836 – October 9, 1915) was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly and the Wisconsin State Senate. Biography Sherman was born on November 30, 1836, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He later moved to Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, where he edited and published the ''Beaver Dam Argus''.
