Seminary Of Our Lady Of Fatima
Our Lady of Fatima Minor Seminary (SENOFA; Portuguese: ''Seminário Menor de Nossa Senhora de Fátima'') is a Roman Catholic minor seminary located in Dili, Timor-Leste. Established in 1936, it is the country's oldest Roman Catholic seminary. Originally located in Soibada, Manatuto, it moved in 1951 to Dare, on the outskirts of Dili. The seminary was canonically registered by the Holy See in 1954. In 1958, the Jesuits took over administration of the seminary. The seminary closed after the 1975 Indonesian invasion of East Timor, reopening three years later in 1978. A minor seminary or high school seminary is a secondary day or boarding school created for the specific purpose of enrolling teenage boys who have expressed interest in becoming Priesthood (Catholic Church), Catholic priests. They are generally Catholic Church, Catholic institutions, and designed to prepare boys both academically and spiritually for vocations to the priesthood and religious (Catholicism), religious life. Francisco Xavier do Amaral (3 December 1937 – 6 March 2012) was an East Timorese politician. A founder of the ''Frente Revolucionária de Timor Leste Independente'' (Fretilin), Amaral was sworn in as the first President of East Timor when the country, then a Portuguese colony, made a unilateral declaration of independence on 28 November 1975. He was a member of the National Parliament for the Timorese Social Democratic Association from 2001 until his death in 2012. Leandro Maria Alves (born 10 May 1974) is the Roman Catholic Bishop of Baucau, East Timor. He was appointed on 26 April 2023. Previously, he served as deputy parish priest, parish administrator and parish priest of Dili Cathedral, and in many other offices in the Catholic Church in East Timor. Norberto do Amaral (born 17 February 1956) is the Roman Catholic Bishop of Maliana, East Timor. He was appointed on 30 January 2010. Previously, he served as an assistant pastor and as a pastor, as Rector of the Diocesan Minor Seminary in the Diocese of Díli, and in other offices in the Catholic Church in East Timor. Early life and education Amaral was born in Ainaro in the then Portuguese Timor (now East Timor), and attended the local elementary Catholic school. Jaime Garcia Goulart
Jaime Garcia Goulart (10 January 1908 – 15 April 1997) was a Portuguese Catholic prelate and missionary in Portuguese Timor who served as the first bishop of the Diocese of Dili from 1945 to 1967. Born on the island of Pico in the Azores, he entered the seminary at age 13 and was ordained a priest in 1931. Between 1932 and 1940, he served as a missionary in the Portuguese colonies of Macau and Timor. In 1941, Goulart was named apostolic administrator of the newly-created Diocese of Dili. During World War II, Goulart faced persecution by the Japanese occupying forces, prompting him to escape to Australia in 1942. Alberto Ricardo da Silva (4 April 1943 – 2 April 2015) was the Roman Catholic bishop of Dili, Timor-Leste. Early life He was born in Aileu, in Timor-Leste when it was still a Portuguese colony. He studied in the minor seminary of Dili and was sent to Macao to study philosophy, and to Portugal to study theology in the major seminary of Leiria.
