Selle (Scheldt Tributary)
The Selle is a river in the departments of Aisne and Nord, Hauts-de-France region, northern France. It flows into the Scheldt at Denain, southwest of Valenciennes, and approximately 20 km from the Belgian border. It is one of several rivers in France with the same name. The river originates in the north of the ''département'' of Aisne, near Molain and flows northwest to its confluence with the Scheldt. It is long. History In 57 BC, the Selle was the site of the Battle of the Sabis between Julius Caesar and the Nervians, Atrebates and Viromandui. In the Middle Ages, the river was a boundary between the lands of Hainaut and Cambrai. In World War I, during the Hundred Days Offensive of 1918, the German Army had taken up positions along the Selle near Le Cateau. General Rawlinson's Fourth Army spent two weeks preparing to assault these positions. Linn Selle
Linn Selle (born 5 September 1986 in Havixbeck) is president of the European Movement Germany. Education After graduating from the University of Bonn and Sciences Po with a bachelor's degree in political science, Selle completed a master's degree in European studies at the European University Viadrina. Here, she earned a doctor of philosophy degree under doctoral advisor on the role of the European Parliament and the German Bundestag in the negotiations on the EU's Multiannual Financial Framework 2014-2020. Career Since June 2021, Selle has held the position of Head of the European Affairs Department at the Representation of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia to the Federal Government. Formerly, Selle worked for the Federation of German Consumer Organizations (VZBV) in Berlin-Kreuzberg as a consultant for international trade policy. La Selle Thrush
The La Selle thrush (''Turdus swalesi'') is a species of bird in the family Turdidae endemic to the Caribbean island of Hispaniola (split between the Dominican Republic and Haiti). A skulker of broadleaf and pine forests around 1300m, it is limited to a small and declining population in the inland Dominican Republic, as well as a relict population in Haiti. Etymology Its name is derived from Pic la Selle, Haiti's highest point. Distribution ''Turdus swalesi'' is found only on Hispaniola. Two subspecies are described: ''T. s. dodae'' has been recorded from the mountain ranges of the Cordillera Central and Sierra de Neiba in the Dominican Republic, and the La Visite National Park La Visite National Park () is one of the two largest national parks of the Republic of Haiti.
