Meša Selimović
Mehmed "Meša" Selimović (; ; 26 April 1910 – 11 July 1982) was a Yugoslav writer, whose novel '' Death and the Dervish'' is one of the most important literary works in post-World War II Yugoslavia. Some of the main themes in his works are the relations between individuality and authority, life and death, and other existential problems. Biography Selimović was born to a prominent Bosnian Muslim family on 26 April 1910 in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he graduated from elementary school and high school. In 1930, he enrolled to study the Serbo-Croatian language and literature at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Philology and graduated in 1934. His lecturers included Bogdan Popović, Pavle Popović, Vladimir Ćorović, Veselin Čajkanović, Aleksandar Belić and Stjepan Kuljbakin. Himzo Selimović
Himzo Selimović (born 23 March 1961) served as the Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, or Director of the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies, until 2014 when he resigned as a result of countrywide anti-government riots in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Selimović originally became a police officer in the early 1980s in Foča, and later in Goražde, Fojnica and the Sarajevo suburb Ilijaš. Between 2002 and 2010 he served as the Police Commissioner of the Ministry of the Sarajevo Canton. Beba Selimović
Izeta Selimović (27 March 1936 – 10 March 2020), known by her stage name Beba Selimović, was a Bosnian sevdalinka-folk singer and was one of the leading female singers of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s in Yugoslavia, along with Zehra Deović, Nada Mamula and Silvana Armenulić. Early life and family Selimović was born on 27 March 1936 in Trebinje, Bosnia and Herzegovina, while it was a part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The Selimović family originally hails from Bileća. Being the youngest of five children in a Bosniak family, she was called ''beba'' (''baby'') by her older siblings and took that as her stage name when she became a professional singer. Vahid Selimović (born 3 April 1997) is a Luxembourgish professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Bosnian Premier League club Željezničar. Born in Luxembourg, Selimović was a youth international for Serbia, but represents the Luxembourg national team at the senior level. Jasenko Selimović
Jasenko Selimović (born 1 January 1968) is a Bosnian-born Swedish director, artistic director, writer and politician representing the Liberal People's Party. He was a Member of the European Parliament from 2015 until 2019. Biography Culture Selimović was educated at the academy of creative arts in Sarajevo and at the Dramatic Institute in Stockholm. He fled from the war in Bosnia in 1992. Envera Selimović is a Bosnian journalist. She was the United Nations Department of Public Information Representative in Azerbaijan. At her appointment in 2006, she was described as "one of Bosnia’s best-known and highly respected journalists." Selimović graduated Politology at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Sarajevo. Alma Selimovic
Alma Selimovic (born 1981) is a queer artist and LGBTIQA human rights defender. She was one of the organizers of the first Queer Sarajevo Festival and is known for her mixed media art works which explore questions of body, gender and sexuality. Selimovic has exhibited her work in over 30 museums, galleries and other venues in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany and the United States. As of 2017, she lives and works in the US.
