Secretary General Of The CSTO
The secretary general of CSTO is the chief civil servant of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), responsible for coordinating the workings of the alliance. The officeholder is one of the foremost political official in the organization. The current secretary general is former Kazakh Prime Minister Imangali Tasmagambetov, who took office on 1 January 2023. History The CSTO countries selected the first secretary general in October 1996. Since that time, eight different military/security officials have served officially as secretary general. Four countries have been represented, with five secretaries general hailing from Russia, one from Armenia, one from Belarus and one from Kazakhstan. The position has also been occupied temporarily on two occasions by an acting secretary general between appointments. Lieutenant General Stanislav Vasilievich Zas (, ; born 1964) is a Belarusian general and politician who is a former Secretary-General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and was formerly the State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus. Early life Zas was born in 1964 in Chernihiv, Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. From 1982–1985, Zas was enrolled in the Baku Higher Combined Arms Command School in the capital of the Azerbaijan SSR. Career After graduating from the Azerbaijani command school at the age of 21, he began his service in the Soviet Army, at one point acting as a commander of a motorized rifle platoon and reconnaissance platoon. Nikolay Nikolayevich Bordyuzha (; born 20 October 1949) is a Russian general and politician. Collective Security Treaty Organization
The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO, ) is an Intergovernmental organization, intergovernmental military alliance in Eurasia consisting of six post-Soviet states: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan. The Collective Security Treaty has its origins in the Soviet Armed Forces, which was replaced in 1992 by the United Armed Forces of the Commonwealth of Independent States, and was then itself replaced by the successor armed forces of the respective independent states. Former members of the CSTO military alliance were Azerbaijan, Georgia (country), Georgia and Uzbekistan.
