Seagulls
Gulls, or colloquially seagulls, are seabirds of the family Laridae in the suborder Lari. They are most closely related to the terns and skimmers and only distantly related to auks, and even more distantly to waders. Until the 21st century, most gulls were placed in the genus ''Larus'', but that arrangement is now considered polyphyletic, leading to the resurrection of several genera. An older name for gulls is mews, which is cognate with German ''Möwe'', Danish ''måge'', Swedish ''mås'', Dutch ''meeuw'', Norwegian ''måke''/''måse'' and French ''mouette'', and can still be found in certain regional dialects. Gulls are typically medium to large in size, usually grey or white, often with black markings on the head or wings. They typically have harsh wailing or squawking calls; stout, longish bills; and webbed feet. Most gulls are ground-nesting carnivores which take live food or scavenge opportunistically, particularly the ''Larus'' species. Live food often includes crusta ... Brighton & Hove Albion F
Brighton () is a seaside resort and one of the two main areas of the City of Brighton and Hove in the county of East Sussex, England. It is located south of London. Archaeological evidence of settlement in the area dates back to the Bronze Age, Roman and Anglo-Saxon periods. The ancient settlement of "Brighthelmstone" was documented in the '' Domesday Book'' (1086). The town's importance grew in the Middle Ages as the Old Town developed, but it languished in the early modern period, affected by foreign attacks, storms, a suffering economy and a declining population. Brighton began to attract more visitors following improved road transport to London and becoming a boarding point for boats travelling to France. The town also developed in popularity as a health resort for sea bathing as a purported cure for illnesses. In the Georgian era, Brighton developed as a highly fashionable seaside resort, encouraged by the patronage of the Prince Regent, later King George IV, who ... Operation Seagull (Ireland)
Operation Seagull (''"Unternehmen Möwe"'' or ''"Seemöwe"'' in German) was an Abwehr II/Brandenburger Regiment-sanctioned mission launched in September 1940. The object of the mission was to infiltrate the UK in preparation for Operation Sea Lion (''Unternehmen Seelöwe'' in German). Military context Operation Seagull was planned in connection with Abwehr's remit of intelligence gathering for Operation Sea Lion. Despite being planned and launched, the mission was aborted midway during the sea crossing to Ireland. At the time of Seagull's conception, Abwehr chief Wilhelm Canaris had already issued orders that regional Abwehr stations known as ''"Ast's"'' (see Abwehr) were not to attempt to infiltrate into Britain via Ireland for the foreseeable future, due to the dismal failure of Operation Lobster I (''"Unternehmen Hummer"'' in German) in July 1940. However, Seagull was directed by Army Group Northern France/ Belgium via the Brandenburger Regiment attached to Abwehr II ... Tempted And Tried
''Tempted and Tried'' is the 13th studio album by British folk rock band Steeleye Span. The album was recorded after a three-year hiatus after the release of '' Back in Line''. After releasing ten albums in fairly rapid succession during the 1970s, the band entered something of a creative dry spell, with 'Tempted' being only their 3rd album in 10 years. The album cover proclaims the album a "20th Anniversary Celebration", and the band was clearly eager to commemorate their anniversary, since strictly speaking the band had only been rehearsing in 1969, and didn't record until 1970. Long-time bassist Rick Kemp had left the band a few years earlier, due to a repetitive-motion shoulder injury that left him unable to play bass without pain. On tours, the band had rotated a variety of bassists in to replace him, but it was decided that in advance of the new album and a tour that the band needed a permanent bassist. Nigel Pegrum turned to a friend of his, Tim Harries, a self-taug ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Nowhere (album)
''Nowhere'' is the debut album by British shoegaze band Ride, released 15 October 1990. ''Rolling Stone'' called the album "a masterpiece", and online magazine ''Pitchfork'' called it "one of shoegazing's enduring moments". Background and production Ride released three EPs, '' Ride'', ''Play'', and '' Fall'', prior to the release of ''Nowhere''. ''Nowhere'' was recorded live-in-the-studio with producer Marc Waterman. Waterman had a mental breakdown, which resulted in Alan Moulder mixing the recordings. The band members were 18 or 19 during the recording of ''Nowhere''. Mark Gardener described it as a "nighttime sort of record", and recalled the band working on the album in the studio during late-night hours, leading to feelings of isolation as a result of the irregular work schedule. Artwork The album cover features an uncrested wave photographed by skateboard/snowboard photographer Warren Bolster. The original LP cover artwork had the band name in embossed text centere ... Callahan noted, "[''Dream River'' is] the last record you could listen to at the end of the day, before you go to bed, around midnight. [I wanted it to be] smooth and relaxing, the perfect end to a person's day." Describing his usual recording method as an all-encompassing experience, Callahan notes that the process differed for ''Dream River'': "You sort of dread [recording an album], knowing you have to go into the abyss, because it gets more and more inten ...
