Screen Australia
Screen Australia is the Australian Federal Government's key funding body for the Australian screen production industry, created under the ''Screen Australia Act 2008''. From 1 July 2008 Screen Australia took over the functions of its predecessor agencies the Australian Film Commission (AFC), the Film Finance Corporation Australia and Film Australia Limited. Screen Australia supports the development, production, promotion and distribution of Australian narrative and documentary screen content. A state-owned enterprise (SOE) is a business entity created or owned by a national or local government, either through an executive order or legislation. SOEs aim to generate profit for the government, prevent private sector monopolies, provide goods at lower prices, implement government policies, or serve remote areas where private businesses are scarce. Message Sticks Indigenous Film Festival
Message Sticks Festival, also known for some time as Message Sticks Indigenous Film Festival, was an arts festival celebrating the culture of Aboriginal Australians, based at the Sydney Opera House, between 1999 and 2013. It focused on film for several years, but music, theatre and dance were also showcased. The festival was succeeded by Homeground in 2014. Message Sticks Message Sticks was initially held at the Sydney Opera House and afterwards toured nationally, between 1999 or 2000 and 2013. In its earliest incarnations, it incorporated Indigenous dance, music, theatre and film, but from 2002 it focused on film, curated by Rachel Perkins and Darren Dale of Blackfella Films. Carriageworks
Carriageworks is a multi-arts urban cultural precinct located at the former Eveleigh Carriage Workshops in Redfern, New South Wales, Redfern, Sydney, Australia. Carriageworks showcases contemporary art and performing arts, as well as being used for filming, festivals, fairs and commercial exhibitions. The largest such venue in Australia, it is a cultural facility of the Government of New South Wales, and receives support from Create NSW and the Australian Government, federal government through the Australia Council for the Arts. Leah Purcell
Leah Maree Purcell (born 14 August 1970) is an Aboriginal Australian stage and film actress, playwright, film director, and novelist. She made her film debut in 1999, appearing in Paul Fenech's ''Somewhere in the Darkness'', which led to roles in films, such as ''Lantana'' (2001), ''Somersault'' (2004), '' The Proposition'' (2005) and '' Jindabyne'' (2006). Ivan Sen (born 1972) is an Indigenous Australian filmmaker. He is a director, screenwriter and cinematographer, as well as an editor, composer, and sound designer. He is co-founder and director of Bunya Productions, and known for the 2013 film '' Mystery Road'', its sequel '' Goldstone'' (2016), and the 2023 mystery-crime film ''Limbo''. Early life Ivan Sen was born in 1972 in Nambour, Queensland, the second child of Donella and Duro Sen. His mother Donella belongs to the Gamilaroi nation of northern New South Wales, and Duro was born in Croatia to a German father and Hungarian mother. ABC Television (Australia)
ABC Television is the general name for the national television services of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). Until an organisational restructure in 2017/2018, ABC Television was also the name of a division of the ABC. Darren Dale is an Indigenous Australian film and television producer. He joined film production company Blackfella Films as a producer and later co-director (with founder Rachel Perkins), and is managing director. Dale is known for co-producing many films and television series with Miranda Dear since 2010, with their most recent collaboration being the second season of '' Total Control''. Rachel Perkins (born 1970) is an Indigenous Australian film and television director, producer, and screenwriter. She founded and was co-director of the independent film production company Blackfella Films from 1992 until 2022. ''First Australians'' is a seven-part Australian historical Documentary film, documentary TV series produced by Blackfella Films over the course of six years, and first aired on SBS (Australian TV channel), SBS TV in October 2008. A book was published to accompany the series. Synopsis The series chronicles the History of Australia, history of contemporary Australia, from the perspective of its first people, Aboriginal Australians and Torres Strait Islander people. Beck Cole is an Australian filmmaker of the Warramungu and Luritja nations.
