Scouting in the Northern Mariana Islands is in a state of development and growth. Scouting has existed in the islands since at least the 1970s, and may have been developed as early as the 1950s. Background The Boy Scouts of America have been active in the Northern Mariana Islands for decades, as part of the Pacific Basin District of the Aloha Council. Boy Scouts Of America
Scouting America is the largest scouting organization and one of the largest List of youth organizations, youth organizations in the United States, with over 1 million youth, including nearly 200,000 female participants. Scouting in Hawaii began in the 1900s. It serves thousands of youth in programs that suit the environment in which they live. Order Of The Arrow
The Order of the Arrow (OA) is the honor society of Scouting America, composed of Scouts and Scouters who best exemplify the Scout Promise, Scout Oath and Scout Law, Law in their daily lives as elected by their peers. It was founded as a camp fraternity by E. Urner Goodman, with the assistance of Carroll A. Edson, in 1915. Although it began without national approval, it was eventually admitted as an "Official Experiment" of Scouting America. In 1948, following an extensive review, it became a program of the organization. Tinian
Tinian () is one of the three principal islands of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). Together with uninhabited neighboring Aguiguan, it forms Tinian Municipality, one of the four constituent municipalities of the Northern Marianas. Tinian's largest village is San Jose. Tinian is just south of the Northern Marianas' most inhabited island, Saipan, but north of the populated Rota to the south.
