Scorpio's Dance
''Scorpio's Dance'' is the third album by the rock band Shocking Blue. It was released in 1970 on Pink Elephant Records. The album was released under the title ''Sally Was a Good Old Girl'' in Japan. This album continues the band's exploration into country music and Americana with tracks like "Alaska Country" and "Sally Was a Good Old Girl". It still stays true to its rock roots as well. Despite continuing their growth as a band, the album did not fare so well in America. Since the album's reissue in 1990 it featured the singles " Send Me a Postcard", "Mighty Joe" and "Hello Darkness", the latter with B-side, as bonus tracks both on CD and LP. Mariska Veres
Maria Elizabeth Ender, better known as Mariska Veres () (1 October 1947 – 2 December 2006), was a Dutch singer who was best known as the lead singer of the rock group Shocking Blue. Described as being similar to a young Cher, she was known for her sultry voice, eccentric performances, and her striking appearance which featured kohl-rimmed eyes, high cheekbones, and long jet black hair, which was actually a wig. Biography Family Veres was born in The Hague, in the Netherlands. Her father was the Hungarian Romani violinist Lajos Veres (1912–1981), and her mother Maria Ender (1912–1986) was of French and Russian heritage. Singing career Veres began her career as a singer in 1963 with the guitar band ''Les Mysteres''. In 1964 the band recorded an EP (GTB-label, 10 copies only) with Veres singing on side 1: "Summertime" (solo) and "Someone" (a duet). Hank Cochran
Garland Perry "Hank" Cochran (August 2, 1935 – July 15, 2010) was an American country music singer and songwriter. Starting during the 1960s, Cochran was a prolific songwriter in the genre, including major hits by Patsy Cline, Ray Price, Eddy Arnold, and others. Cochran was also a recording artist between 1962 and 1980, scoring seven times on the ''Billboard'' country music charts, with his greatest solo success being the No. 20 "Sally Was a Good Old Girl." Robbie Van Leeuwen
Robbie van Leeuwen (born 29 October 1944) is a Dutch musician who was a guitarist, sitarist, background vocalist and main songwriter for Dutch bands, including The Motions and Shocking Blue. In 1967 he played guitar on the only single ever released by "The Six Young Riders" titled "Let the Circle Be Unbroken". As of January 2021, he is the only surviving member of Shocking Blue's best known four-piece lineup. Career In 1970 he was in the band Shocking Blue, which had a No. 1 hit with the single "Venus". In 1974 he left Shocking Blue and released the successful single "Long Hot Summer" with his new band Galaxy-Lin. He was the founder and main composer for this band which released two albums: "Galaxy Lin" in 1974 and "G" in 1975. "Send Me a Postcard" is a song written by Robbie van Leeuwen, and recorded by Shocking Blue in 1968. With lyrics in Swedish by Per Gessle, the song was recorded in 1980 by Gyllene Tider, as "Skicka ett vykort, älskling". Finnish version of the song "Kirjoita postikorttiin" was recorded by Muska as her debut single in 1971 and first hit song. A Turkish version of the song "Aşk Çiçeği" (Flower of Love) was released by the band '' Mavi Işıklar'' in 1971. "Send Me a Postcard" was covered by Loog on their 1995 album '' Meltdown House'', but was generally unknown in the US until Ladytron's Softcore Jukebox compilation was released in 2003. Shocking Blue
Shocking Blue was a Dutch rock band formed in 1967 in The Hague. It was part of the music movement in the Netherlands that was generally known by the name Nederbeat. The band had a number of hits throughout the counterculture movement during the 1960s and early 1970s, including " Send Me a Postcard" and "Venus", which became their biggest hit and reached number one on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and many other countries during 1969 and 1970.
