''Sciodaphyllum pittieri'' is a species of flowering plant in genus ''Sciodaphyllum''. It is native to the mountain forests of Costa Rica and western Panama. Description ''Sciodaphyllum pittieri'' is an evergreen tree, which grows up to 25 meters high, thickly branched, with a trunk up to 40 cm in diameter. Élie Marchal (1 March 1839, in Wasigny – 19 February 1923, in Gembloux) was a Belgian botanist and mycologist. From 1861 to 1871, he was a middle-school teacher in the communities of Virton, Ath, Visé and Maeseyck. From 1871 to 1879 he was associated with research done at the '' Jardin botanique des Bruxelles''. Additionally, from 1872 until 1899, he worked as a lecturer at various horticultural and teacher schools. Théophile Alexis Durand (4 September 1855, in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode – 12 January 1912) was a Belgian botanist. He studied pharmacy at the University of Liège, afterwards travelling to Switzerland, where he befriended botanist Henri François Pittier, with whom he collaborated on studies of Swiss flora. Henri François Pittier
Henri François Pittier de Fabrega (August 13, 1857 in Bex, Switzerland – January 27, 1950 in Caracas, Venezuela) was a Swiss-born geographer and botanist who started Venezuelan National Park history. Biography He graduated as an engineer from the University of Jena and moved to Costa Rica in 1887, where he founded the Physical Geographic Institute and an herbarium. Pittier collected fungi in Costa Rica which was published as a paper in 1896 by Marietta Hanson Rousseau and Elisa Caroline Bommer, and collected spiders that were detailed or described by A. Getaz in a paper in 1893, and collected at various dates and locations in the prior four years. That latter work also mentions a specimen from Greytown (Nicaragua) also collected by H.Pittier. Pittier arrived in Venezuela in 1917, where he classified more than 30,000 plants and devoted many years to studying the flora and fauna in the country. Cordillera Central (Costa Rica)
The Cordillera Central is a volcanic mountain range in central Costa Rica which continues from the Continental Divide to east of Cordillera de Tilarán. It extends 80 km from Tapezco Pass to the Turrialba Volcano and ending on the Pacuare River. It is separated from Cordillera de Tilarán by Balsa River and Platanar and Zarcero hills. The Cordillera Central is part of the American Cordillera, a chain of mountain ranges (cordillera) that consists of an almost continuous sequence of mountain ranges that form the western "backbone" of North America, Central America, South America and Antarctica. Cordillera De Talamanca
The Cordillera de Talamanca is a mountain range that lies in the southeast half of Costa Rica and the far west of Panama. Much of the range and the area around it is included in La Amistad International Park, which also is shared between the two countries. This range in the south of Costa Rica stretches from southwest of San José to beyond the border with Panama and contains the highest peaks of both Costa Rica and Panama, among them Cerro Chirripó at 3,820 m, and the more accessible high peak of Cerro de la Muerte. The Talamancan montane forests ecoregion, in the tropical moist broadleaf forest biome, are in montane Costa Rica and western Panama in Central America. Setting The Talamancan montane forests cover a discontinuous area of in Cordilleran mountains, including the Cordillera de Guanacaste, Cordillera de Tilarán, Cordillera Central, and Cordillera de Talamanca, from northwestern Costa Rica to western Panama, with outliers on Cerro Hoya on Panama's Azuero Peninsula.
