Elisabeth Schiemann
Elisabeth Schiemann (; 15 August 1881 – 3 January 1972) was a German geneticist, crop researcher and resistance fighter in the Third Reich. Background and education Elisabeth Schiemann was born in Viljandi, Estonia, at the time part of the Governorate of Livonia in the Russian Empire. Her father was the historian ; from 1887 she lived in Berlin. She was part of the first generation of women in Germany who were permitted to study and pursue independent careers as academics, although initially in a limited capacity. She attended a seminar for teachers and stayed on in Paris for several years to study language. Subsequently, she worked for a few years as a teacher in a girls' school. From 1908 she studied at the University of Berlin and earned her doctorate there in 1912 with a thesis on mutations in ''Aspergillus niger''; her supervisor was Erwin Baur. Konrad Schiemann
Sir Konrad Hermann Theodor Schiemann, PC (born 15 September 1937) is a former German-British barrister and judge. He served on the Court of Appeal, and he was also a member of the Court of Justice of the European Union. Schiemann was born in Berlin in 1937 to Helmut Schiemann and Beate von Simson. His father was killed during the Second World War, but he and his mother escaped to Munich. After his mother died, he emigrated to England to live with an uncle in 1946. He was educated at King Edward's School, Birmingham, Freiburg University, and Pembroke College, Cambridge. In 1965, he married Elisabeth Hanna Eleonore Holroyd-Reece, daughter of publisher John Holroyd-Reece. Paul Schiemann ( lv, Pauls Šīmanis; 17 March 1876 – 23 June 1944) was a Baltic German journalist, editor and politician who was known for his commitment to minority rights. Biography Carl Christian Theodor Paul Schiemann was born in Mitau in Courland, then part of the Russian Empire. He was educated in Germany, and underwent military training in the Imperial Russian army on the territory of what is now Lithuania. He came from a wealthy and conservative family (his uncle Theodor Schiemann, was a prominent supporter and historian of the German Empire), but his own political views were very liberal, and "made him an equally ardent opponent of both German National Socialism and of Soviet socialism." Schiemann started his education in Jelgava Gymnasium but later his father sent him to finish his studies in Elberfeld.
