"Save Me" is a 1974 song by the German Euro disco group Silver Convention, which became a hit in Germany. Silver Convention were a German Euro disco recording act of the 1970s. The group was originally named Silver Bird Convention or Silver Bird. History The group was initiated in Munich, then West Germany, by producers and songwriters Michael Kunze and Sylvester Levay. The group was named after Levay's nickname: "Silver". Kunze in the late 1960s had been a pop lyricist who wrote protest songs in German; when these tunes went out of style, he began producing pop records and commercials. Levay had developed a taste for American music while growing up in then Yugoslavia, eventually becoming a music arranger and lyricist. Using female session vocalists named Ingrid, Wilma, and Monica, they scored a successful single in the United Kingdom in 1975 with the song " Save Me", which peaked at #30. ''Save Me'' (originally released as: ''Silver Convention'') is the debut studio album by Silver Convention, a German Euro disco group consisting of three female vocalists (Linda G. Thompson, Penny McLean and Jackie Carter) and two producers and songwriters (Sylvester Levay and Stephan Prager). Reception The first track recorded for the album was "Another Girl", with an earlier track called " Save Me" also being included, even though the recording was recorded before the then-current line up of the group had been formed. The album was released in 1975, becoming a dance-floor hit. Although commercial success was mixed, the album did hit number ten on the Billboard Pop Albums chart, and number one on the Billboard Black Albums chart even though only one member of the group at the time was black. Midland International Records
Midland International Records (later Midsong International Records) was a US record label founded in 1974 by Eddie O'Loughlin and Bob Reno. The label was best known for the hit records " Doctor's Orders" by Carol Douglas, " Fly, Robin, Fly" and " Get Up and Boogie" by Silver Convention, and " Let Her In" by John Travolta. History Releases on the label were manufactured and distributed in the United States by RCA Records from 1974 to 1978. In 1977, legal action by Midland Radio which markets electronics using the Midland International name forced the record label to change its name to Midsong International. Midsong was also the name of the label's music publishing unit. Distribution shifted briefly in 1978 to MCA Records before switching to independent distribution later that year. Sylvester Levay (originally Lévay Szilveszter, Serbian language, Serbian: Силвестер Леваи, ''Silvester Levai'') is a Hungarian people, Hungarian recording artist and composer, born in Yugoslavia (now Serbia). Life and career Levay was born on 16 May 1945 in Subotica in the North Bačka District of Vojvodina, Yugoslavia (now Serbia). Sylvester Levay began his musical studies at the age of eight. Levay developed a taste for American music while growing up in Yugoslavia, eventually becoming a music arranger and lyricist. Upon his arrival in Munich in 1972, he met his writing partner, Michael Kunze (writer), Michael Kunze, with whom he has created many successful theatrical works. The Kent Music Report was a weekly record chart of Australian music singles and albums which was compiled by music historian David Kent from May 1974 through to January 1999. The chart was re-branded the Australian Music Report (AMR) in July 1987.
