The twenty-ninth season of ''Saturday Night Live'', an American sketch comedy series, originally aired in the United States on NBC between October 4, 2003, and May 15, 2004. History This season marked the debut of a brand new stage for the host's monologue and the musical guest performing stage. Instead of the wrought-iron fire escape motif with the blinking "ON AIR" light, the stages are now modeled after Grand Central Terminal (right down to the spherical clock). Cast Before the start of the season, longtime cast members Chris Kattan and Tracy Morgan, who had both been on the show since 1996, departed the show on their own terms, and featured player Dean Edwards, who had been on the show the past two seasons, was let go following the finale. The twenty-eighth season of ''Saturday Night Live'', an American sketch comedy series, originally aired in the United States on NBC between October 5, 2002 and May 17, 2003. Cast Prior to the start of this season, longtime cast members Will Ferrell, who had been of the show for seven seasons since 1995, and Ana Gasteyer, who was on for six seasons since 1996, both left the show. In Gasteyer's case, she was on maternity leave during the break and decided not to return. In the wake of their departures, two new featured players were added: comedian and musician Fred Armisen and Will Forte of The Groundlings. This season would be the last for longtime cast members Chris Kattan and Tracy Morgan, who had been on the show for eight and seven seasons, respectively, since 1996. ''Kenan & Kel'' is an American sitcom created by Kim Bass that originally aired on Nickelodeon from August 17, 1996, to May 3, 2000. Set in Chicago, the series follows mischievous Kenan Rockmore (Kenan Thompson) and his happy-go-lucky best friend Kel Kimball ( Kel Mitchell), who get involved with zany hijinks on a number of misadventures. Eighteen days before the season started, the September 11 terrorist attacks took place in New York. The season premiere (hosted by Reese Witherspoon) went on as scheduled, with a special cold open featuring Rudy Giuliani, the Mayor of New York City at the time, along with firefighters from the FDNY and police officers from the NYPD, declaring that despite the terrorist attack, New York City will run as normal and ''Saturday Night Live'' will go on as planned (with Lorne Michaels asking Giuliani "Can we be funny?" and Giuliani replying "Why start now?").
