Sarpo Laggo Glacier
__NOTOC__ The Sarpo Laggo Glacier ( zh, 萨尔波拉戈冰川, ''Sarpo Laggo'': 'young husband') is a glacier in the autonomous region Xinjiang of China, in the Karakoram mountain range of the Himalayas. Geography Sarpo Laggo Glacier lies north of the Baltoro Muztagh range, reachable from the Baltoro glacier on the Pakistani side of the Karakorams via the ''Old Muztagh Pass'' northeast of the Trango Towers. It is, however, easier to approach from the Chinese side, starting a long hike at Kashgar on the Karakoram Highway and finally passing K2's northern base camp. The glacier is named after Francis Younghusband, who was the first person to pass the Old Mustagh Pass and thus enter the Sarpo Laggo region. There is another glacier not far away, also named after him: Younghusband glacier (also known as Biango glacier) flows from Muztagh Tower towards the Baltoro Glacier. Karakoram
The Karakoram () is a mountain range in the Kashmir region spanning the border of Pakistan, China, and India, with the northwestern extremity of the range extending to Afghanistan and Tajikistan. Most of the Karakoram mountain range is within Pakistan's Gilgit-Baltistan region, the northern subdivision of Kashmir. Muztagh Tower
Muztagh Tower (), also Mustagh Tower; ''Muztagh'': icy mountain), is a mountain situated in Baltoro Muztagh, which is a segment of the Karakoram range. It straddles the border of the Gilgit–Baltistan region of Pakistan and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China. Muztagh Tower is located between the basins of the Baltoro Glacier, Baltoro and Sarpo Laggo Glacier, Sarpo Laggo glaciers. Early prominence The Mustagh Tower gained attention through a photograph captured by Vittorio Sella during the 1909 Italian expedition to K2. The picture was taken from the upper Baltoro, from a vantage point located due southeast of the mountain. In this photograph, the twin summits of Mustagh Tower appeared perfectly aligned, giving the mountain the appearance of a slender tooth and making it seem extremely impregnable. Concordia (Pakistan)
Concordia (; ) is the confluence of the Baltoro Glacier and the Godwin-Austen Glacier in the Karakoram mountain range of Pakistan. It is located in the Baltistan region of Pakistan, at above sea level. The area is often used as a base camp for mountaineering expeditions on K2 and other nearby peaks, and is also a popular destination for trekkers and backpackers. The name was first applied by English mountaineer Aleister Crowley during the 1902 Eckenstein/Crowley attempt on K2, and comes from the location's similarity to another glacial confluence, also named Concordia, in the Bernese Oberland of the Central Alps. The Baltoro Glacier (; ) is a glacier located in the Shigar District of the Gilgit-Baltistan region in Pakistan. It stretches for in length. It is one of the longest glaciers outside the polar regions. It is home to some of the world’s highest mountains. It runs through the Karakoram mountain range, close to K2, which is the second highest peak in the world, reaching an elevation of 8,611 meters (28,251 feet). Dafdar, also spelled Daftar, is a township in the Taghdumbash Pamir located in Tashkurgan Tajik Autonomous County, Kashgar Prefecture, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China. The township is located near the China–Pakistan border. The southern part of the township is located in the Trans-Karakoram Tract claimed by India. Name Dafdar means "door" or "gateway" in the Sarikoli language, spoken by Chinese Tajiks. History The area has been used for grazing by various pastoral people in the region for centuries. During the Qing dynasty, the Chinese claimed suzerainty over the area but permitted the Mir of Hunza to administer the region in return for a tribute. According to British colonial sources, this arrangement started during early Ayosh dynasty of Mir of Hunza, as the Mir conquered the Kirghiz nomads of Taghdumbash Pamir.
