Sarah O'Reilly
Sarah O'Reilly (born 1975/1976) is an Irish Aontú politician who has been a senator for the Agricultural Panel since January 2025. She was a member of Cavan County Council for the Bailieborough–Cootehill area from March 2016 to January 2025. She was co-opted onto the council in March 2016 as a Fianna Fáil member, replacing Niamh Smyth on her election to Dáil Eireann. In December 2018, O'Reilly joined Aontú. She was re-elected to the council as an Aontú candidate in 2019 and 2024. From 2020 to 2021, O'Reilly served as chairperson of Cavan County Council. She has worked in Agriculture and is an accountant. Seanad Éireann ( ; ; "Senate of Ireland") is the senate of the Oireachtas (the Irish legislature), which also comprises the President of Ireland and Dáil Éireann (defined as the house of representatives). 2024 Cavan County Council Election
An election to all 18 seats on Cavan County Council was held on 7 June 2024 as part of the 2024 Irish local elections. County Cavan is divided into 3 local electoral areas (LEAs) to elect councillors for a five-year term of office on the electoral system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote (PR-STV). The period for nominations ran from 10 a.m. on Saturday 11 May and ended at 12 p.m. on Saturday 18 May 2024. Candidates could be nominated by a registered political party, through the submission of 15 assents from voters in the local electoral area, or alternatively with a deposit of €100. The 27th Seanad has been in office since February 2025. The 2025 Seanad election took place in January 2025, following the 2024 general election to the 34th Dáil on 29 November 2024. It was fully composed on 7 February 2025 on the nomination of members by the taoiseach. Background The Constitution of Ireland requires a general election for Seanad Éireann, the senate of the Oireachtas, to take place no later than ninety days after the dissolution of Dáil Éireann.
