Santa Fe High School is a public secondary school located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, United States. Founded in 1899, it is one of the oldest high schools in New Mexico. The school exclusively educates a secondary student-based body, ninth through twelfth grades. On May 18, 2018, a school shooting occurred at Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, Texas, United States, in the Houston metropolitan area. Ten people – eight students and two teachers – were fatally shot, and thirteen others were wounded. Dimitrios Pagourtzis, a student at the school, was taken into custody. The shooting is the eighth-deadliest school shooting in the United States. Background The Santa Fe Independent School District has an active shooter plan, and two armed police officers that interacted with students in the school. In the year prior to the shooting, the school district leadership made plans to arm teachers and staff through the Texas School Marshal Program. Santa Fe Independent School District (SFISD) is a public school district based in Santa Fe, Texas (USA) in the Houston metropolitan area. In addition to Santa Fe, the district serves parts of League City, La Marque, Hitchcock, and Dickinson. In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency. History The district was a petitioner of the United States Supreme Court case '' Santa Fe Independent School Dist. v. Doe'', which held that student-led, student-initiated prayer at football games violates the Establishment Clause of the United States Constitution. Edmond Santa Fe High School is a public high school located in Edmond, Oklahoma, United States. Founded in 1993, Santa Fe is one of three traditional high schools in the Edmond Public Schools district, along with Edmond Memorial High School and Edmond North High School. Santa Fe Indian School (SFIS) is a tribal boarding secondary school in Santa Fe, New Mexico. It is affiliated with the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE). History The Federal Government established the Santa Fe Indian School (SFIS) to educate Native American children from tribes throughout the Southwestern United States. Although the school gives its founding date as 1890, ''The Santa Fe New Mexican'' reported an enrollment of 40 students in April 1885 and 200 students in April 1887. The school enrolled students from Laguna Pueblo, Santo Domingo Pueblo, San Felipe Pueblo, and Zuni Pueblo.
