Sander Van Der Weide
Sander Petrus Henricus van der Weide (born 21 June 1976 in Boxtel, North Brabant) is a field hockey player from the Netherlands, who was a member of the Dutch team that won the golden medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. The defender made his debut on 13 November 1996 in a friendly against Germany in Eindhoven. He played in the Dutch League for HC Den Bosch and Amsterdam, before moving to Spain in the summer of 2004, just after the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, where he won the silver medal with the national squad. Field Hockey
Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, synthetic field, or indoor boarded surface. The stick is made of wood, carbon fibre, fibreglass, or a combination of carbon fibre and fibreglass in different quantities. The stick has two sides; one rounded and one flat; only the flat face of the stick is allowed to progress the ball. During play, goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with any part of their body. A player's hand is considered part of the stick if holding the stick. Amsterdamsche Hockey & Bandy Club (founded 28 January 1892) is the oldest field hockey club of the Netherlands, based in Amstelveen. AH&BC is also the largest field hockey club in the city (2286 members). The team is a powerhouse of both domestic and international hockey. Both its men's and women's teams are annual contenders for the Dutch titles. The men's team won its maiden European Cup in 2005.
