USS ''Sandalwood'' (YN-27/AN-32) was an built for the United States Navy during World War II. She was later transferred to the French Navy as ''Luciole''. She was stricken from the French Navy and sold to Malaysian owners, but her fate beyond that is unreported in secondary sources. Career ''Sandalwood'' (YN-27) was laid down on 18 October 1940 by the American Shipbuilding Company, Lorain, Ohio; launched on 6 March 1941; sponsored by Mrs. J. L. Wallace; delivered on 24 October 1941; and placed in service on 25 October 1941. Following transit of the St. Lawrence River, ''Sandalwood'' proceeded down the U.S. East Coast to Norfolk, Virginia, where she remained, conducting net operations and performing occasional patrol or salvage duties, into 1944. Sandalwood, South Australia
Sandalwood is a town and locality in the Australian state of South Australia located about east of the state capital of Adelaide. Sandalwood lies between Karoonda and Alawoona on the Karoonda Highway and Loxton railway line. It was founded as a siding on the new railway line, which opened in 1913. The post office opened in 1914, and the school in 1919. These have now all closed. The 2016 Australian census which was conducted in August 2016 reports that Sandalwood had a population of 60 people. The Sandalwood Pony is a breed of small horse originating from Indonesia, on the Sumba and Sumbawa Islands. It is named after the Sandalwood trees, which are a major export of the country. The Sandalwood pony is one of the finest in the country, partly due to the great amount of Arabian blood. They make suitable children's ponies, and have been exported to Australia for this purpose. They have also been exported to other Southeast Asian countries for use as racing ponies. The Sandalwood is used for light draft, pack, farm, and riding work. They are especially popular in horse racing, both on the flat and in harness. They are also used in the bareback races held on the islands, which are often over long. Sumba ( id, Pulau Sumba) is an island in eastern Indonesia. It is one of the Lesser Sunda Islands and is in the province of East Nusa Tenggara. Sumba has an area of , and the population was 779,049 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2021 was 788,190.
