The San Diego Padres are an American professional baseball team based in San Diego. The Padres compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the National League (NL) West division. Michael Dennis Armstrong (born March 7, 1954) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played from 1980 to 1987, mainly as a relief pitcher. He played college baseball for the University of Miami. Career Armstrong originally was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the ninth round of the 1972 draft, but did not sign. He was then drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the first round (24th overall) of the 1974 amateur draft. While still in the minors, Armstrong was traded to the San Diego Padres in 1979. He made appearances in the majors with the Padres in 1980 and 1981, but mainly played in the minor leagues. Prior to the start of the 1982 season, Armstrong was purchased by the Kansas City Royals. Steven Ralph Arlin (September 25, 1945 – August 17, 2016) was an American pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for the San Diego Padres and Cleveland Indians for six seasons. College star Born in Seattle, Arlin was a collegiate star at Ohio State University and was a star in the College World Series. In a 1965 semifinal game against Washington State, he struck out 20 batters in 15 innings, both CWS records, in a 1–0 complete game victory for the Buckeyes. Ohio State, however, lost the final game to an Arizona State team that featured Rick Monday and Sal Bando. The following year in 1966, Arlin led Ohio State to the title and was named the CWS most valuable player. In his two years with the Buckeyes, Arlin posted a 24–3 record with 294 strikeouts. His 165 strikeouts in 1965 remains an Ohio State single-season record; it and the career strikeout record had been set by Paul Ebert in the 1950s. George Alberto Arias (born March 12, 1972) is a former baseball player in Major League Baseball and Nippon Professional Baseball. Career Arias was drafted by the California Angels in the seventh round of the 1993 Major League Baseball draft after graduating from the University of Arizona. He made his major league debut in , and played 84 games, hitting .238 with seven home runs and 28 RBI. He went back and forth between the majors and minor leagues after that, and was traded to the San Diego Padres during the season. Oswaldo Celestino Arcia (born May 9, 1991) is a Venezuelan professional baseball outfielder for the Toros de Tijuana of the Mexican League. He previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Minnesota Twins, Tampa Bay Rays, Miami Marlins, and San Diego Padres. José Arcia
José Raimundo Arcia Orta (August 22, 1943 - July 31, 2016) was a utility infielder in Major League Baseball who played from 1968 to 1970 for the Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres. Arcia was signed as an amateur free agent by the Houston Colt .45s in 1962 but would not make his major league debut for six years. In 1967's Rule 5 draft, the Cubs selected Arcia from the Cardinals organization. He opened the 1968 season as a member of the Cubs and remained with the club the whole season, batting .190 in 58 games as a rookie, hitting his only Major League home run, and playing six positions in the field. Arcia was selected by the Padres in the 1968 MLB expansion draft. Arcia saw considerable playing time over the next two seasons with San Diego, serving as a rather versatile utility man.
