San Diego City Council
The San Diego City Council is the legislative branch of government for the City of San Diego. The city council was first established in San Diego in 1850. The council is part of a strong mayor system with a separately elected mayor who acts as the executive of the city. There are currently nine members of the council. City council members serve a four-year term and are limited to two successive terms. History San Diego was first incorporated as a city government with a common council on March 27, 1850. Todd Rex Gloria (born May 10, 1978) is an American politician serving as the 37th mayor of San Diego since 2020. As mayor, he is the chief executive officer of the City of San Diego. A member of the Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party, he is the first person of color and the first openly gay person to serve as San Diego's mayor. Gloria was first elected to public office representing District 3 of the San Diego City Council. He was president of the nine-member council from 2012 through 2014. Cowles Mountain (/koʊlz/, /kaʊlz/ ; properly ''KOHLZ'', commonly ''KOWLZ'') is a prominent mountain in San Carlos, San Diego, California. The summit is the highest point of the city of San Diego.
