Samuel Nicholson
Samuel Nicholson (1743 – December 28, 1811) was an officer in the Continental Navy during the American Revolutionary War and later in the United States Navy. Along with shipwright George Claghorn he oversaw the building of ("Old Ironsides"), and Nicholson was that ship's first commander. Personal life The son of Joseph and Hannah Scott Nicholson, Samuel Nicholson was born in Chestertown, Maryland. He married Mary Dowse, sister of Edward Dowse, on February 9, 1780, and had "a large family of children". They lived in Dedham, Massachusetts, and at least three of their daughters were baptized in the Episcopal Church there. Service in American Revolution Nicholson was a captain in the Continental Navy. Samuel Nicholson (merchant)
Samuel Nicholson (1738–1827) was a London wholesale haberdasher, known as a Unitarian and associate of radicals. He is remembered for his social connections with William Wordsworth in the early 1790s. Earlier life Nicholson was born on 4 September 1738, the son of George Nicholson, and grandson of the nonconformist minister George Nicholson (1636–1690) of Kirkoswald, Cumbria, Kirkoswald, Cumberland. He was in business in London as a wholesale haberdasher, in Cateaton Street. His warehouse was adjacent to his home. In the 1780s, Nicholson was a member of the Society for Constitutional Information. Relationship with Wordsworth Wordsworth met Nicholson through a family connection, Elizabeth Threlkeld, who had been Dorothy Wordsworth's foster mother (1778–1787) in Halifax, Yorkshire. Samuel Caldwell Nicholson
Samuel Caldwell Nicholson (died 1891) was a British trade unionist. Nicholson was a compositor who became the Treasurer of the Manchester Typographical Society. In 1864, he was elected the first President of the Manchester and Salford Trades Council. After hearing from William Dronfield, Secretary of the Sheffield Typographical Society, of the lack of interest in trade union matters at the Congress of the National Association for the Promotion of Social Science, Nicholson proposed forming a Trades Union Congress (TUC).D. Sam Alastair Nicholson (born 20 January 1995) is a Scottish footballer who plays as a left winger or left midfielder for Colorado Rapids in Major League Soccer. Career Heart of Midlothian Nicholson attended Penicuik High School in Midlothian and grew up supporting Heart of Midlothian.
