Sam And Ruth VanSickle Ford House
The Sam and Ruth Van Sickle Ford House is a historic house located at 404 S. Edgelawn Drive in Aurora, Illinois. The house was built in 1949–50 for painter and art teacher Ruth Van Sickle Ford and her husband, civil engineer Sam Ford. Architect Bruce Goff, an influential figure in the organic movement, designed the house. The house is dome-shaped, with Quonset hut ribs forming the frame of the dome. Most of the dome is covered in shingles; however, the southeast side of the dome was left open to give the house outdoor rooms. Two smaller domes containing the home's bedrooms abut the south and northeast sides of the main dome. Aurora is a city in the Chicago metropolitan area located partially in DuPage, Kane, Kendall, and Will counties in the U.S. state of Illinois. Bruce Goff
Bruce Alonzo Goff (June 8, 1904 – August 4, 1982) was an American architect, distinguished by his organic, eclectic, and often flamboyant designs for houses and other buildings in Oklahoma and elsewhere. A 1951 ''Life Magazine'' article stated that Goff was "one of the few US architects whom Frank Lloyd Wright considers creative...scorns houses that are ‘boxes with little holes." Ruth Van Sickle Ford
Ruth Van Sickle Ford (August 8, 1897 – April 18, 1989) was an American painter, art teacher, and owner of the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. She credited artists George Bellows, who influenced her interest in social realism, and John Carlson, who founded the School of Landscape Painting in Woodstock, New York, with helping her to develop her talent. She traveled and made paintings in the United States, Caribbean and South America. An award-winner, her works are in many permanent public and private collections.
