Cecil "Sam" Cook (23 August 1921 – 4 September 1996) was an English first-class cricketer who played for Gloucestershire County Cricket Club and in one Test match for the England cricket team. Life and career Born in Tetbury, Gloucestershire, Cook was a small and stocky slow left-arm spinner, who emerged unexpectedly after World War II when Gloucestershire had lost Tom Goddard’s former partner, Reg Sinfield. Wally Hammond saw him in the nets during the spring, and with great expectations that were later amply fulfilled, he immediately recruited Cook. Cook, who was never known by his given name, took a wicket with his first ball in first-class cricket, and 133 wickets in the 1946 season, when he played in the Test Trial. Samuel James Cook (born 4 August 1997) is an English cricketer. He made his first-class debut on 31 March 2016 for Loughborough MCCU against Surrey as part of the Marylebone Cricket Club University fixtures. He played for Essex against the West Indies during their tour of England in August 2017. He was part of the 2017 County Championship winning Essex squad. He made his List A debut for Essex in the 2018 Royal London One-Day Cup on 17 May 2018. He made his Twenty20 debut for Essex in the 2018 T20 Blast on 4 July 2018. In September 2020, in the final of the 2020 Bob Willis Trophy, Cook took a five-wicket haul. In April 2022, he was bought by the Trent Rockets for the 2022 season of The Hundred. Sam Cook (born 1 August 1993) is a New Zealand professional rugby league footballer who last played as a for the New Zealand Warriors in the NRL. Samuel Cook (January 22, 1931 – December 11, 1964), known professionally as Sam Cooke, was an American singer and songwriter. Considered to be a pioneer and one of the most influential soul artists of all time, Cooke is commonly referred to as the " King of Soul" for his distinctive vocals, notable contributions to the genre and significance in popular music.
