Redoshi
Redoshi ( 1848 – 1937) was a Beninese woman who was kidnapped and smuggled to the U.S. state of Alabama as a girl in 1860. Until a later surviving claimant, Matilda McCrear, was announced in 2020, she was considered to have been the last surviving victim of the transatlantic slave trade. Taken captive in warfare at age 12 from the Slave Coast of West Africa, she was sold to Americans and transported by ship to the United States, in violation of U.S. law. She was sold again and enslaved on the upcountry plantation of the Washington Smith family in Dallas County, Alabama, where her owner renamed her Sally Smith. Redoshi survived slavery and the imposition of Jim Crow laws during the post- Reconstruction era of disenfranchisement, and lived into the Great Depression. Sally Smith (born 19 April 1942) is a British actress born in Godalming, Surrey. Although primarily a star of both dramatic and musical theatre she appeared in several films and dozens of television shows. She made her film debut as a child in ''The Magic Box'' (1951) with Robert Donat, and another early movie was '' The Story of Esther Costello'' (1957) with Joan Crawford. In the 1960s she was the female lead in the films ''Trouble with Eve'' (1960), ''She Always Gets Their Man'' (1962), and ''Father Came Too!'' (1964). Sarah J. Smith (born January 23, 1945) is an American politician. She was a member of the Alaska Legislature in the 1970s and 1980s, and the mayor of Juneau, Alaska, from 2000 to 2003. She later worked as a field representative for United States Senator Mark Begich. Early life and education Smith was born in Pekin, Illinois on January 23, 1945. She graduated from Pekin Community High School in 1963, then attended the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, where she graduated with a bachelor of science in education in 1967. Career Smith moved to Fairbanks, Alaska in 1969. Previously, she was a cultural news reporter for ''New York Times'' and ''Time.'' Sally Liberman Smith (May 7, 1929 – December 1, 2007) was an American educator. Smith founded the Lab School for children with learning difficulties in 1967. She was also a professor in the School of Education and the Head of the Graduate Program in Special Education at the American University until the time of her death. Life Early years Smith was born in New York City to Isaac and Bertha Liberman on Tuesday May 7, 1929. She was the youngest of four daughters and grew up in New York. Her father, Isaac, was the president of a department store, Arnold Constable and Co. Education In 1950 Smith graduated from Bennington College in Vermont – at the time an all women's institution. Maria Margharita "Sally" Merchant (October 1, 1919 – April 1, 2007) was a Saskatchewan television personality and political figure. She was the only Liberal MLA elected to represent Saskatoon in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan from 1964 to 1967. She did not seek re-election in 1967. Life and career She was born Maria Margharita Smith in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, the daughter of Vincent Smith, a Saskatchewan judge and former MLA for Yorkton. She received a B.A. from Dalhousie University and a B.Ed. from the University of Saskatchewan. In 1941, she married Captain Evatt Francis Anthony Merchant; he was killed in action during World War II. Her husband's brother was Robert Thomas Peter Merchant (1917–2011), a prominent Halifax businessman.
