SYS (DOS Command)
In computing, sys is a command used in many operating system command-line shells and also in Microsoft BASIC. DOS, Windows, etc. SYS is an external command of Seattle Computer Products 86-DOS, Microsoft MS-DOS, IBM PC DOS, Digital Research FlexOS, IBM/Toshiba 4690 OS, PTS-DOS, Itautec/ Scopus Tecnologia SISNE plus, and Microsoft Windows 9x operating systems. It is used to make an already formatted medium bootable. It will install a boot sector capable of booting the operating system into the first logical sector of the volume. Tim Paterson
Tim Paterson (born 1 June 1956) is an American computer programmer, best known for creating 86-DOS, an operating system for the Intel 8086. This system emulated the application programming interface (API) of CP/M, which was created by Gary Kildall. 86-DOS later formed the basis of MS-DOS, the most widely used personal computer operating system in the 1980s. Biography Paterson was educated in the Seattle Public Schools, graduating from Ingraham High School in 1974. He attended the University of Washington, working as a repair technician for The Retail Computer Store in the Green Lake area of Seattle, Washington, and graduated ''magna cum laude'' with a degree in Computer Science in June 1978. BIOS
In computing, BIOS (, ; Basic Input/Output System, also known as the System BIOS, ROM BIOS, BIOS ROM or PC BIOS) is a type of firmware used to provide runtime services for operating systems and programs and to perform hardware initialization during the booting process (power-on startup). Boot Sector
A boot sector is the disk sector, sector of a persistent data storage device (e.g., hard disk, floppy disk, optical disc, etc.) which contains machine code to be loaded into random-access memory (RAM) and then executed by a computer system's built-in firmware (e.g., the BIOS). Usually, the first sector of the hard disk is the boot sector, regardless of sector size (512 or 4096 bytes) and partitioning flavor (Master boot record, MBR or GUID Partition Table, GPT). The purpose of defining one particular sector as the ''boot sector'' is inter-operability between firmware and various operating systems.
