Al-Seeb, As Seeb, As Sib, or Seeb () is a coastal fishing province, located several kilometres northwest of Muscat, in northeastern Oman. At the 2020 census, it had a population of 470,878. Landmarks include the Naseem Garden, the Royal Stables and Equestrian Centre, Royal Guard of Oman Technical College, Al Baraka Palace, Muscat International Airport and Markaz al Bahja. History The "Fort of Sibo" was located here. It complemented the defence of Muscat Square, which was one of its first and most important roles. It was part of a series of fortified cities that the Portuguese put up to control access to the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, like Khor Fakan, Muscat, Sohar, Seeb, Qurayyat and Muttrah. It has been demolished, at its former location today stands the Muscat International Airport. Treaty Of Seeb
The Treaty of Seeb (variously Sib or As Sib) was an agreement reached between the Sultan of Muscat, Taimur bin Feisal, and the Imamate of Oman on 25 September 1920. The treaty granted autonomy to the imamate in the interior of Oman but recognized the sovereignty of the Sultanate of Muscat. The treaty was named after Seeb (as-Sib), a coastal town in present-day Oman. History The Imamate has appeared in cycles for more than 1,200 years in Oman, at times succeeding in expelling the Portuguese colonizers out of southeast Arabia and establishing a thalassocracy that extended its power towards the Persian Gulf and East Africa. N5 Road (Oman)
The N5, also officially known as Sultan Qaboos Road () and formerly designated as Route 1 (), is a national road in the Sultanate of Oman, connecting Muscat, the capital city in the Sultanate and a hub for commercial activity, to the many coastal cities of Oman that sit alongside the Sea of Oman such as Seeb and Sohar. Al Baraka Palace ( , also known as Seeb Palace) is a royal palace in Seeb, on the outskirts of Muscat. It is the primary residence of the Sultan of Oman. History The palace was designed by British architects, Page and Broughton, surrounded by gardens, and completed in the 1970s. Al-Shabab Club () is an Omani sports club based in Barka, Oman. The club currently plays in the Oman Professional League, top division of Oman Football Association. Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) () is a public university located in al-Seeb, Oman. Established in 1986, it is one of the two public universities in the country and is named after Qaboos bin Said al-Said, the Sultan of Oman from 1970 until 2020. Most students entering the university are selected based on their performance in high school final examinations. Student enrollment has grown from 500 in 1986 to more than 10,000 in 2005.
