Rory Peck
Rory Peck (13 December 1956 – 3 October 1993) was a Northern-Irish freelance war Camera operator, cameraman who was killed while covering the events of the 1993 Russian constitutional crisis. Work Rory Peck covered the first Gulf War; the wars in war in Bosnia, Bosnia and Soviet–Afghan War, Afghanistan, the many armed conflicts that followed the History of the Soviet Union (1985–1991)#Dissolution of the USSR, dissolution of the Soviet Union. He was one of the founders of the independent Frontline Television News agency. Rory was shot and killed outside the Ostankino Technical Center, Ostankino TV Centre in Moscow by Boris Yeltsin's loyalists (the Internal Troops' special forces unit Vityaz (MVD), Vityaz) while covering the Russian constitutional crisis of 1993. The Rory Peck Trust is an international NGO that supports freelance journalists and their families in crisis. Based in London, UK, it provides practical assistance and support to freelance journalists worldwide, to raise their profile, promote their welfare and safety, and support their right to report freely and without fear. It also runs the annual Rory Peck Awards. History Freelance cameraman Rory Peck was killed in Moscow in 1993. In 1995, his widow, Juliet, founded the Trust in his memory. Originally established to run the Rory Peck Awards, the scope of the Trust's work grew, and in 1998 the Freelance Assistance Programme was established, providing emergency grants to freelance journalists in crisis. In 2000, the Rory Peck Training Fund was set up, which provides hostile environment training bursaries to freelancers. The Trust now gives over 100 grants each year to freelancers worldwide.
