Raritan River
The Raritan River is a river of the U.S. state of New Jersey. Its Drainage basin, watershed drains much of the mountainous areas in the North Jersey, northern and Central Jersey, central sections of the state, emptying into the Raritan Bay near Staten Island on the Atlantic Ocean. History Geologists assert that the lower Raritan provided the course of the mouth of the Hudson River approximately 6,000 years ago. Following the end of the last ice age, the Narrows had not yet been formed and the Hudson flowed along the Watchung Mountains to present-day Bound Brook, New Jersey, Bound Brook, then followed the course of the Raritan eastward into Lower New York Bay. Bridgewater Township is a Township (New Jersey), township in Somerset County, New Jersey, Somerset County in the U.S. state of New Jersey, located within the heart of the Raritan River, Raritan Valley region. The Raritan were two groups of Lenape people who lived around the lower Raritan RiverIves Goddard, "Delaware," p. 213. and the Raritan Bay, in what is now northeastern New Jersey, in the 16th century. Name The name ''Raritan'' likely came from one of the Delaware languages, Lenape languages (among the languages in the Algonquian languages, Algonquian language group), though there are a variety of interpretations as to its meaning. Peters Brook (Raritan River)
Peters Brook is a tributary of the Raritan River that flows south through Bridgewater Township and Somerville, New Jersey, in the United States. Some of its tributaries include Ross Brook and Mac's Brook. Peters Brook is approximately six miles long, beginning near the west side of I-287 and emptying into the Raritan River south of Somerville. The Brook is named for Peter Van Nest, son of Dutch immigrant Pieter Van Nest. The homestead of the Van Nest family was in nearby Raritan near Glaser Avenue. Peters Brook is notable for having high phosphate levels and flooding, receiving large amounts of stormwater. North Branch Raritan River

The North Branch Raritan River rises in Morris County, in eastern Mendham Borough rising out of Raritan Pond, and flows generally southward into Somerset County, around the southern end of the Watchung Mountains. At its end, it forms the border between Bridgewater and Branchburg Townships, and upon reaching the border of Hillsborough Township, joins the South Branch Raritan River to form the main Raritan River, which generally flows eastward from that point. South Amboy is a city in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, located on Raritan Bay.
