Rıdvan Turan
Rıdvan Turan (born 1 January 1971) is a Turkish politician from the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), who serves as a Member of Parliament for Mersin. Born in Reşadiye, Tokat, Turan graduated from Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine in 1995. In 2008, he was elected as the leader of the Socialist Democracy Party, which was a member of the Peoples' Democratic Congress and was thus instrumental in the establishment of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) in 2012. In Jul 2013 he was convicted to 6 years and 3 months imprisonment being a member of an illegal organization. The sentence was appealed. He was elected Member of Parliament for the HDP in the June 2015 general election but lost his seat in the snap election held on 1 November 2015. Mersin Province
Mersin Province ( tr, ), formerly İçel Province ( tr, ), is a province in southern Turkey, on the Mediterranean coast between Antalya and Adana. The provincial capital and the biggest city in the province is Mersin, which is composed of four municipalities and district governorates: Akdeniz, Mezitli, Toroslar and Yenişehir. Next largest is Tarsus, the birthplace of Paul the Apostle. November 2015 Turkish General Election
General elections were held in Turkey on 1 November 2015 to elect 550 members to the Grand National Assembly. They were the 25th general elections in the History of the Republic of Turkey and elected the country's 26th Parliament. The election resulted in the Justice and Development Party (AKP) regaining a Parliamentary majority following a 'shock' victory, having lost it five months earlier in the June 2015 general elections. Socialist Democracy Party
Socialist Democracy Party (''Sosyalist Demokrasi Partisi'', SDP) was a socialist party in Turkey. Most of its members were formerly in an opposition grouping within ÖDP, named ''Sosyalist Eylem Platformu'' (Socialist Action Platform). They defended closer ties with pro- Kurdish DEHAP and radical left and campaigned against privatisation and European Union membership.
