Ryan Miller (baseball)
Ryan Robert Miller (born March 28, 1996) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Detroit Tigers organization. He has previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Los Angeles Angels. He made his MLB debut in 2024. Career Miller graduated from Venice High School in Venice, Florida, and played college baseball at State College of Florida and Clemson University. Arizona Diamondbacks The Arizona Diamondbacks drafted Miller in the sixth round, with the 189th overall selection, of the 2018 Major League Baseball draft. He made his professional debut with the rookie–level Hillsboro Hops, logging a 3.86 ERA in 12 games. Miller spent the 2019 campaign with the Single–A Kane County Cougars, logging a 4–6 record and 3.62 ERA with 36 strikeouts over 27 appearances out of the bullpen. The Hillsboro Hops are a Minor League Baseball team in the Pacific Northwest, northwest United States, located in Hillsboro, Oregon, a city in the Portland metropolitan area. The Portland Sea Dogs are a Minor League Baseball team based in Portland, Maine, playing in the Eastern League (1938–present), Eastern League. The Rule 5 draft is a Major League Baseball (MLB) player draft that occurs each year in December, at the annual Winter Meeting of general managers. In baseball, a save ( SV or S) is credited to a pitcher who finishes a game for the winning team under certain circumstances. A save can be earned by entering a game in which his team is leading by three or fewer runs and finishing the game by pitching at least one inning without losing the lead; entering the game with the tying run in the on-deck circle, at the plate or on the bases and finishing the game; or by pitching at least three innings in relief and finishing the game regardless of how many runs your team was winning by when entering the game. The number of saves or percentage of save opportunities successfully converted are oft-cited statistics of relief pitchers, particularly those in the closer role.
