Coins Of The Newfoundland Dollar
Newfoundland, as a separate British colony, produced its own decimal currency between 1865 and 1947. The Coins of Newfoundland are of historical importance as Newfoundland Colony, Newfoundland was a British colony until 1907, and a Dominion of Newfoundland, Dominion until 1949, when Newfoundland and Labrador became the tenth province of Canada. Traders' tokens Rutherford brothers The first Newfoundland traders' tokens were Halfpenny tokens issued by brothers Robert & I.S. Rutherford in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, St John's in 1840–41. There are two varieties of the tokens – a dated type and an undated type. In 1846, after a fire destroyed the St. John's store, two additional Rutherford Brothers (George and Andrew) opened a new store in Harbour Grace, Newfoundland and Labrador, Harbour Grace and issued a second set of tokens, inscribed ''RUTHERFORD BROS.'' These pieces were minted by Ralph Heaton & Sons of Birmingham, England (commonly known as Heaton's Mint). ...

Rutherford (lunar Crater)
Rutherford is a small lunar impact crater that lies on the Moon's far side. It was named after New Zealand-British physicist and Nobel laureate Ernest Rutherford. It is located just to the north-northwest of the huge walled plain Mendeleev. To the east of Rutherford is the equally diminutive crater Glauber, and to the west-northwest lies Hoffmeister. This crater has a roughly pear-shaped outline, with an elongated section at the north-northwestern end. The rim edge is well-defined and the inner walls are simple slopes that run down to the small interior floor. Rutherford Scattering
The Rutherford scattering experiments were a landmark series of experiments by which scientists learned that every atom has a Atomic nucleus, nucleus where all of its positive charge and most of its mass is concentrated. They deduced this after measuring how an alpha particle beam is scattering, scattered when it strikes a thin Foil (metal), metal foil. The experiments were performed between 1906 and 1913 by Hans Geiger and Ernest Marsden under the direction of Ernest Rutherford at the Physical Laboratories of the University of Manchester. The physical phenomenon was explained by Rutherford in a classic 1911 paper that eventually led to the widespread use of scattering in particle physics to study subatomic matter. Rutherford scattering or Coulomb scattering is the elastic scattering of charged particles by the Coulomb interaction. The paper also initiated the development of the planetary Rutherford model of the atom and eventually the Bohr model. Rutherford scattering is now ...

Rutherford (unit)
The rutherford (symbol Rd) is a non-SI unit of radioactive decay. It is defined as the activity of a quantity of radioactive material in which one million nuclei decay per second. It is therefore equivalent to one megabecquerel, and one becquerel equals one microrutherford. One rutherford is equivalent to curie, or rutherfords for one curie. The unit was introduced in 1946. It was named after British/New Zealand physicist and Nobel laureate Lord Ernest Rutherford (Nobel Prize in 1908), who was an early leader in the study of atomic nucleus The atomic nucleus is the small, dense region consisting of protons and neutrons at the center of an atom, discovered in 1911 by Ernest Rutherford at the Department_of_Physics_and_Astronomy,_University_of_Manchester , University of Manchester ... disintegrations. After the becquerel was introduced in 1975 as the SI unit for activity, the rutherford became obsolete, and it is no longer commonly used. Radiation related quantities The ...

Rutherford (NJT Station)
Rutherford is a New Jersey Transit railroad station served by the Bergen County Line located in Rutherford, New Jersey, United States. The station is located near a traffic circle at the junction of Park Avenue, Union Avenue, Erie Avenue and Orient Way known as Station Square, with a grade crossing on Park Avenue. History The Paterson and Hudson River Railroad was constructed through Union Township in 1833 (still mostly farmland at this point), and a station was constructed adjacent to the "Boiling Springs" (actually cold, but so named due to its turbulent flow). The service on the railroad line was initially passenger coaches pulled by horses, with the driver having a seat in the coach. The railroad soon switched to locomotive-hauled, purchasing two locomotives built in Baltimore, Maryland. The introduction of the locomotive service helped spur building construction and development in the area around Boiling Springs. The increased demand led the railroad to build a new st ...
