Russell (Manitoba Electoral District)
Russell was a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was located in the southwestern section of the province. Historical riding The original Russell riding was created in 1886, shortly after the expansion of Manitoba's western boundaries. It existed until 1957, when it was combined with the riding of Birtle as Birtle-Russell. The riding was primarily agrarian, and elected candidates from various parties who supported agrarian interests. List of provincial representatives Modern riding The riding of Birtle-Russell lasted from 1957 to 1979, and the subsequent riding of Roblin-Russell from 1979 to 1999. In 1999, the Roblin section of the riding was joined with Dauphin as Dauphin—Roblin, and a separate Russell riding was re-established. The riding was dissolved again in 2011. Dauphin (Manitoba Riding)
Dauphin is a provincial electoral division in the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of Manitoba. It was originally created in 1881 with the expansion of the province's western boundary, eliminated in 1886, re-established in 1892, and finally abolished in 1999. Most of its territory went to the new riding of Dauphin-Roblin, though a small amount went to the riding of Swan River (electoral district), Swan River. Dauphin-Roblin was largely replaced by a new Dauphin riding in the 2008 redistribution, expanding to include Ste. Rose du Lac, Manitoba, Ste. Rose du Lac. Dauphin was initially centred on the community of Dauphin, Manitoba, though it now encompasses much rural territory as well. It is located in the province's mid-northern region, close to the provincial border with Saskatchewan. Hamiota is an unincorporated urban community in the Hamiota Municipality within the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of Manitoba that held town status prior to January 1, 2015. It is located on Manitoba Highway 21, Provincial Trunk Highway 21 (PTH 21) midway between the Trans-Canada Highway and the Yellowhead Highway. It is located in Western Manitoba, 84 kilometers northwest of Brandon, Manitoba, Brandon. The trading area radius of 20 kilometres has approximately 10,000 people. First known as Hamilton, for Thomas Hamilton, one of the first settlers, the town name was changed to avoid confusion with Hamilton, Ontario. The new name contracted Hamilton with the Sioux word ota, "much". Shoal Lake, Manitoba
Shoal Lake is a locality in the southwest of Manitoba, Canada. Originally incorporated as a town, Shoal Lake amalgamated with the Rural Municipality of Shoal Lake on January 1, 2011 to form the Municipality of Shoal Lake, which became the Rural Municipality of Yellowhead on January 1, 2015. History Shoal Lake was first settled in 1875 when the North-West Mounted Police established a barracks along the Carlton Trail at the south end of the lake. The community was established in 1884, and moved to its current location at the lake's north side in 1885 to coincide with the building of the Manitoba & Northwestern Railroad (now CPR). Russell is an unincorporated urban community in the Municipality of Russell-Binscarth in Manitoba, Canada. It is located along PTH 16 and PTH 83, and is at the western terminus of PTH 45. Russell is approximately east of the Saskatchewan border and northwest of Winnipeg. The community is home to 1,611 people as of the 2011 census. The community was designated as a town prior to 1 January 2015, when it and the nearby Village of Binscarth amalgamated with the Rural Municipality of Russell.
