Macdonald is an unincorporated community in Manitoba northwest of Portage la Prairie. The Post Office opened in 1884 on section 33, township 12, range 8 west of the Prime Meridian. Originally known as Drumconner, it changed to its present name in 1895 (commemorating Sir John A. Macdonald, first Prime Minister of Canada) and is located on section 35, township 8, range 12 west of the Prime Meridian. The community is in the Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie. Rural Municipality of Cartier is a rural municipality in the Central Plains and Metro Regions of Manitoba, Canada. The municipality is bordered on the west by the RM of Portage la Prairie, to the east by the RM of Headingley, and to the north by the Assiniboine River. It is mainly flat rich farmland. Its main town is Elie. It is named after Sir George-Étienne Cartier who was a leader in bringing Quebec into Confederation. Until 1914, it was part of the larger municipality of St. François Xavier. Headingley (sometimes spelled Headingly) is a rural municipality in Manitoba, Canada. It is located directly west of Winnipeg and had a population of 3,579 people as of the 2016 census. The Trans-Canada Highway and the Assiniboine River run through the municipality. The 2021 Canadian census was a detailed enumeration of the Canadian population with a reference date of May 11, 2021. It follows the 2016 Canadian census, which recorded a population of 35,151,728. The overall response rate was 98%, which is slightly lower than the response rate for the 2016 census. It recorded a population of 36,991,981, a 5.2% increase from 2016. Planning Consultation on census program content was from September 11 to December 8, 2017. Starbuck, Manitoba
Starbuck is a community in Manitoba on the La Salle River, and is located within the Rural Municipality of Macdonald. Starbuck is about a 25-minute drive from Winnipeg along Provincial Trunk Highway (PTH) 2. Also Provincial Road 332 runs north and south of town. The Canadian Pacific Railway's Souris line still runs through Starbuck providing the primary means of shipping grain out of the terminal. Passenger train service was halted a number of decades ago. Bus service to and from Winnipeg is provided 3 times per week. Starbuck has two churches (Catholic and Lutheran; the local United Church community shares the Lutheran Church after a 2014 fire destroyed the United Church building), a community hall, skating and curling rinks, and an early/middle years school. Oak Bluff is an incorporated community located in the Rural Municipality of Macdonald, Manitoba, Canada. It is situated seven kilometres southwest of the City of Winnipeg, between Manitoba Highway (PTH) 3's intersections with PTH 2 and PTH 100 (the Perimeter Highway). The community has a population of 1,442 as of the 2021 Canadian census Oak Bluff overlaps the Central Plains and Winnipeg Metro Regions. It is not part of the smaller Winnipeg census metropolitan area. History The Oak Bluff area was settled by British and Scottish settlers in the 1870s.
