Runnells is a city in the southeastern corner of Polk County, Iowa, Polk County, Iowa, United States. The population was 457 at the time of the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. Runnells has its own Post Office, located at 112 Brown Street. History Runnells incorporated as a city on May 21, 1903. It was named for John S. Runnells, a former editorial writer for the ''Des Moines Register, Iowa State Register'' and private secretary for Governor Samuel Merrill (Iowa governor), Samuel Merrill.
