Runnells is a city in the southeastern corner of Polk County, Iowa, Polk County, Iowa, United States. The population was 457 at the time of the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. Runnells, a former editorial writer for the ''Des Moines Register, Iowa State Register'' and private secretary for Governor Samuel Merrill (Iowa governor), Samuel Merrill.
