Run Home, Slow
''Run Home, Slow'' is a 1965 American Western film starring Mercedes McCambridge, Linda Gaye Scott, and Gary Kent, directed by Ted Brenner and written by Don Cerveris. Plot After her father is murdered by hanging, Nell Hagen (McCambridge) sets out with her brothers Ritt (Kent) and Kirby (Richards) and cousin Julie Ann (Scott) to seek revenge. Music Cerveris had previously taught English at Antelope Valley High School in California, where Frank Zappa had been one of his pupils. After leaving the job to move to a career in screenwriting, he and Zappa had remained in touch, and in 1959 he convinced Tim Sullivan, the producer of ''Run Home, Slow'', to commission Zappa to compose and conduct the score for the film. One of the themes Zappa composed, ''And Very True'', became the basis for the track ''Duke of Prunes'' on the Mothers of Invention's 1967 album ''Absolutely Free''. Eugene Frenke (1 January 1895 – 10 March 1984) was a Russian-born film producer, director and writer. ''Absolutely Free'' is the second album by American rock band the Mothers of Invention, released on May 26, 1967, by Verve Records. Much like their 1966 debut '' Freak Out!'', the album is a display of complex musical composition with political and social satire, whose blend of jazz, classical, avant-garde and rock idioms within multi-sectional, suite-like compositions, referred to on the album cover as two “oratorios” (with librettos available by mail order), is seen as an important and influential precursor to progressive rock and rock operas. The band had been augmented since ''Freak Out!'' by the addition of woodwinds player Bunk Gardner, keyboardist Don Preston, rhythm guitarist Jim Fielder, and drummer Billy Mundi; Fielder quit the group before the album was released, and his name was removed from the album credits. It was released on CD in 1998, compiling tracks that were originally released on two separate vinyl records and included in the mail order ''Old Masters'' box sets, which were released in three volumes between 1985 and 1987. ''The Lost Episodes'' is a 1996 posthumous album by Frank Zappa which compiles (with the exception of "I Don't Want to Get Drafted" and "Any Way the Wind Blows") previously unreleased material. Much of the material covered dates from early in his career, and as early as 1958, into the mid-1970s. Zappa had been working on these tracks in the years before his death in 1993. The Mothers Of Invention
The Mothers of Invention (also known as the Mothers) were an American rock music, rock band from California. Formed in 1964, their work is marked by the use of sonic experimentation, innovative album art, and elaborate live shows. Originally an R&B band called the Soul Giants, the band's first lineup comprised Ray Collins (rock musician), Ray Collins, David Coronado, Ray Hunt, Roy Estrada, and Jimmy Carl Black. Frank Zappa was asked to take over as the guitarist when a fight between Collins and Hunt led to the latter's being fired. Zappa insisted they perform his original material—a decision that resulted in Coronado's leaving because he did not agree to the change—and on Mother's Day (United States), Mother's Day in 1965 the band changed its name to the Mothers. Carlotta Mercedes Agnes McCambridge (March 16, 1916 – March 2, 2004) was an American actress of radio, stage, film, and television. Orson Welles called her "the world's greatest living radio actress". She won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her screen debut in ''All the King's Men'' (1949) and was nominated in the same category for ''Giant'' (1956). She voiced the majority of dialogue for demon Pazuzu in ''The Exorcist'' (1973). Early life McCambridge was born in Joliet, Illinois, the daughter of Irish-American Catholic parents Marie (née Mahaffry) and John Patrick McCambridge, a farmer.
