Rowe Industries
Rowe Industries was a manufacturer of guitar pickups and other music-related devices, as well as electrical components utilized in the aerospace industry into the 1980s. Owner Horace "Bud" Rowe established a working relationship with budding electrical component designer Harold "Harry" DeArmond (January 28, 1906 – October 12, 1999). DeArmond is credited with developing the first commercially available detachable guitar pickup. Gretsch
Gretsch is an American company that manufactures and markets musical instruments. The company was founded in 1883 in Brooklyn, New York by Friedrich Gretsch, a 27-year-old German immigrant, shortly after his arrival to the United States. Friedrich Gretsch manufactured banjos, tambourines, and drums until his death in 1895. In 1916, his son, Fred Gretsch Sr. moved operations to a larger facility where Gretsch went on to become a prominent manufacturer of American musical instruments. Through the years, Gretsch has manufactured a wide range of instruments, though they currently focus on electric and acoustic guitars and drums. Silvertone (instruments)
Silvertone is a brand created and promoted by Sears for its line of consumer electronics and musical instruments from 1916 to 1972. The rights to the Silvertone brand were purchased by South Korean corporation Samick Music in 2001. Samick made new musical instruments under the Silvertone brand and relaunched some historic models. In 2020, RBI Music was appointed the exclusive worldwide distributor of the Silvertone brand, and in December 2021, RBI acquired all rights to the brand. Musical instruments under the Silvertone name are electric and acoustic guitars, basses, accordions, and ukuleles. Multivox Premier
Multivox Premier was a guitar and amplifier brand of New York-based retailer/wholesaler, Peter Sorkin Music Company (Sorkin Music) and its manufacturing subsidiary Multivox founded in the mid-1940s. Multivox Premier products included: guitars, amplification equipment for guitar, bass and other instruments, PA amplifiers and Hi-fi stereo amplifiers. In modern times, many Premier amplifier models are sought after by blues harmonica players for use with their microphones to achieve a distorted and "fattened" tone, such as the Twin 8 and Model 50. The Premier Model 90 Reverberation unit was a direct competitor with the Fender Reverb Unit during the early to mid 1960s. They can still be found in the arsenal of many guitarists. Levin (guitar Company)
Levin was a Swedish manufacturer of musical instruments founded by Herman Carlson Levin. Active from 1900 to 1978, the company produced over half a million instruments, mostly guitars, but also mandolins, banjos and lutes, making Levin the largest instrument manufacturer in Scandinavia for many years. Levin is best known for originating Goya acoustic guitars. History Founding Herman Carlson Levin was born and raised in Åsaka, Sweden. Guild Guitar Company
The Guild Guitar Company is a United States–based guitar manufacturer founded in 1952 by Alfred Dronge, a guitarist and music-store owner. The brand name currently exists as a brand under Córdoba Music Group. In February 2023, The Yamaha Guitar Group acquired Cordoba Music Group. Origin The first Guild workshop was located in Manhattan, New York, where Dronge (who soon took over full ownership) focused on electric and acoustic archtop jazz guitars. Much of the initial workforce consisted of former Epiphone workers who lost their jobs following their 1951 strike and the subsequent relocation of the company from Queens to Philadelphia. Galanti Electro Music was an accordion and guitar manufacturer from 1917 until the late 1970s. History Antonio Galanti started the Galanti accordion factory with his three sons Domenico, Egidio and Robusto in the small village of Mondaino Italy. Galanti earned his living by traveling throughout Italy showcasing his Merry-Go-Round, while continuing to develop the first Galanti accordion in 1890. The first Galanti accordions saw production in 1917. Epiphone
