Route Nationale 149
The Route nationale 149 (N149) is a trunk road (Route Nationale (France), nationale) in western France. Bressuire to Parthenay (30km) The RN149 starts at the end of the RN249 to the north west of Bressuire. The road then bypasses Bressuire as a dual carriageway before heading south east towards Parthenay. It cuts through the villages of Saint-Sauveur and Chiché, Deux-Sèvres, Chiche before turning south, cutting across the D46 at Amailloux before coming into Parthenay. It then heads east, then south, around Châtillon-sur-Thouet and through a number of roundabouts, before heading east again towards Poitiers. Parthenay to Poitiers (46 km) After a long stretch of country road outside of Parthenay which crosses the D165, the N149 meets the D121 and D22 in La Ferrière-en-Parthenay. Bressuire
Bressuire (; ; Poitevin: ''Beurseure'') is a commune in the French department of Deux-Sèvres, region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The town is situated on an eminence overlooking the Dolo, a tributary of the Argenton. Notable buildings Bressuire has two buildings of interest: the church of Notre-Dame, which, dating chiefly from the 12th and 15th centuries, has an imposing tower of the Renaissance period; and the castle, built by the lords of Beaumont, vassals of the viscount of Thouars. The latter is now in ruins, and a portion of the site is occupied by a modern château, but an inner and outer line of fortifications are still to be seen. The whole forms the finest assemblage of feudal ruins in Poitou. The name The name "Bressuire" comes from two elements, being ''Berg'' (hill) and ''Durum'' (fortress). A ''route nationale'', or simply ''nationale'', is a class of trunk road in France. They are important roads of national significance which cross broad portions of the French territory, in contrast to departmental or communal roads which serve more limited local areas. Their use is free, except when crossing certain structures subject to a toll. They are open to all vehicles, except on certain sections having motorway ('' autoroute'') or express road (''voie express'') status, both of these categories being reserved for motorized vehicles only. France at one time had some 30,500 km of ''routes nationales'' and publicly owned motorways, but this figure has decreased with the transfer of the responsibility for many routes to the ''départements'' so that by 2010 the total length of motorways and other national roads was around 21,100 km. Parthenay
Parthenay (; Poitevin: ''Partenaes'') is an ancient fortified town and ''commune'' in the Deux-Sèvres department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in western France. It is sited on a rocky spur that is surrounded on two sides by the River Thouet, and is the sub-prefecture of the Parthenay ''arrondissement''. It is situated some north of Niort, west of Poitiers, south-east of Nantes, and south-west of Paris. Each July, Parthenay hosts the '' Festival Ludique International de Parthenay'', otherwise known as the ''Festival de Jeux'' or ''FLIP'', in which the town's streets and squares are filled with games of many types.
