The Rotary Museum of Police and Corrections is a museum in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada. Overview The museum covers the history of law enforcement in early Prince Albert and Saskatchewan. The museum is located in the original guardroom of the first Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) depot in Prince Albert. The building was built around 1888 and in 1985 it opened as a museum. It was modified inside using real prison bars from the original Prince Albert police station. The museum is operated by the Prince Albert Historical Society. Collections The museum has artifacts from the RCMP, Prince Albert City Police, provincial correctional facilities, the Saskatchewan Federal Penitentiary, and the Saskatchewan Provincial Police. Exhibits include RCMP and Prince Albert City Police uniforms, and a Thompson submachine gun, or "Tommy Gun" which was used by the Saskatchewan Provincial Police. Prince Albert is the third-largest city in Saskatchewan, Canada, after Saskatoon and Regina. It is situated near the centre of the province on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River. Winnipeg Police Museum
The Winnipeg Police Service is the police force of the city of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. History When Winnipeg became a city, in 1873, an election was held to select the city's new mayor and aldermen. Those appointed decided to hire city officials, including a chief constable. On February 23, 1874, John S. Ingram was appointed the first Chief of Police of Winnipeg. During the 1919 Winnipeg General Strike, most of the force was replaced with 2000 better-paid special constables, for refusing to sign a declaration promising to not belong to a union or participate in a sympathy strike, even though they remained on duty during the strike. The union was thus broken, and Chris H. Newton became the acting chief constable. In 1972, Winnipeg merged with its eight neighbouring communities, causing their amalgamation, but still having eight police services with different uniforms and radio channels. Vancouver Police Centennial Museum
The Vancouver Police Museum & Archives (formerly Vancouver Police Centennial Museum) opened to commemorate the centennial of the Vancouver Police Department and the City of Vancouver, British Columbia in 1986. Located at 240 E. Cordova Street adjacent to Vancouver's Gastown, the museum is housed in a building that was purpose-built in 1932 for use by the City Coroner’s Services and includes the Coroner's Court, morgue and autopsy facilities (until 1980) and the City Analyst’s Laboratory (until 1996). In 1935, the Coroner's Court was used as a makeshift hospital by police during the Battle of Ballantyne Pier. It was designed by architect Arthur J. Bird, and today it is a municipally designated class "A" heritage building. The RCMP Heritage Centre (french: Le Centre du patrimoine de la GRC) is a law enforcement museum located in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. The museum houses a number of exhibits on the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and artifacts relating to the police force.
