Ronzone's
Ronzone's was a local department store in Las Vegas and Tonopah, Nevada. In 1904, in the mining settlement of Manhattan, Nevada, "Mom" Ronzone first started selling socks to miners. In 1917 she opened a store in Manhattan, but due to the decline in that town's economy, moved to Tonopah and opened a store there in 1920. She and her family opened branches in Silver Peak, Nevada and Beatty, Nevada in the 1920s. In 1929, Ronzone's opened a branch at First and Carson in Las Vegas, selling women's and children's clothing. In Las Vegas they moved to ever-larger quarters and in 1938 expanded the format to that of a full department store, the largest in Southern Nevada. They settled into their final location at 416 Fremont Street in 1946. In 1938 Ronzone's husband died and her daughter Amy and husband Al Adams moved from Tonopah to help "Mom" run the Las Vegas business and in 1939 the Ronzones sold the Tonopah store. Manhattan is an unincorporated town in Nye County, Nevada, located at the end of Nevada State Route 377, about north of Tonopah, the county seat. History It originally was founded in 1867 as part of the silver mining boom. George Wheeler found the district abandoned in 1871. Then, in 1905, as part of the gold boom, "4,000 people flood(ed) into the region". The Nye and Ormsby County Bank, the only stone structure to be built in the town, was erected in 1906, but a decline followed the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and the 1907 depression. Silver Peak (also Silverpeak) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Esmeralda County, Nevada, United States. It lies along State Route 265, south of U.S. Route 6 and west of Goldfield, the county seat of Esmeralda County. It has a post office, with the ZIP code of 89047. The population of Silver Peak was 142 as of 2019. Demographics History Silver Peak is one of the oldest mining communities in Nevada. It was founded near a well in 1864, two years after the founding of surrounding Esmeralda County, and one year after silver was discovered nearby and mining began. A 10 stamp mill was built in 1865, and a 20 stamp mill by 1867. Beatty ( ) is an unincorporated town along the Amargosa River in Nye County in the U.S. state of Nevada. U.S. Route 95 runs through the town, which lies between Tonopah, about to the north and Las Vegas, about to the southeast. State Route 374 connects Beatty to Death Valley National Park, about to the west. Before the arrival of non-indigenous people in the 19th century, the region was home to groups of Western Shoshone.
