Ron Cox (Salvation Army Officer)
Ron Cox (1925–1995) was an English minister and Salvation Army officer who served as the 17th Chief of the Staff of The Salvation Army from 1987 to 1991 under General Eva Burrows. Personal life Ronald Cox was born in Canterbury, England. Before joining the Salvation Army, he served in the Royal Navy. He married Hilda Chevalley, a native of Switzerland. Cox's son, Andre Cox, later became the 24th Chief of the Staff of The Salvation Army and the 20th General of the Salvation Army. Career Cox was commissioned as a Salvation Army officer in 1948. He served various corps officer appointments in the United Kingdom before being transferred to Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). The Chief of the Staff of The Salvation Army is a Commissioner appointed by the General of The Salvation Army as the second in command internationally. The Chief of the Staff is stationed at International Headquarters in London. The office of Chief of the Staff was created in 1880 by General William Booth. The first officer to take the position was his son, Bramwell Booth, in 1881. Howard High School, Zimbabwe is a Salvation Army private boarding school located 94 kilometres Northeast of Harare in Glendale, Zimbabwe. History Howard High School was founded in 1923 by Major James Barker and Captain Leonard Kirby of the Salvation Army as the Howard Institute. The school was started when the educational facility that was at Pearson Farm was moved to Nyachuru in the Chiweshe Communal Lands Approximately 90 km north of what was then Salisbury (now Harare). Eva Evelyn Burrows, AC, OF (15 September 1929 – 20 March 2015) was an Australian Salvation Army Officer who was the 13th General of the Salvation Army, serving from 1986 to 1993. She served as an Officer of the Salvation Army from 1951 until her retirement in 1993. In 1993, Henry Gariepy released her biography, ''General of God's Army: the Authorized Biography of General Eva Burrows''. Early life Burrows was born on 15 September 1929 in Newcastle.
