Roger De Ville
Roger Thomas de Ville (21 January 1935 – 8 October 2021) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire in 1963 and 1964. He was later an antiques dealer. Life and career De Ville was born at Uttoxeter, Staffordshire. He began playing for Derbyshire in 1955, when he turned out for the Second XI in the Minor Counties Championship. In the 1963 season he was brought into the first team as a lower-order batsman. He played two games in the season. In the 1964 season he played one more game for the Derbyshire against Oxford University. De Ville was a right-handed batsman who played five innings in three first-class matches with an average of 8.66 and a top score of 17. He was a leg-break bowler, but his lack of consistency saw him dropped in favour of quicker bowlers such as Brian Jackson. Uttoxeter
Uttoxeter ( , ) is a market town in the East Staffordshire district in the county of Staffordshire, England. It is near to the Derbyshire county border. It is situated from Burton upon Trent, from Stafford, from Stoke-on-Trent, from Derby and north-east of Rugeley. The population was 13,089 at the 2011 Census. The town's literary connections include Samuel Johnson and Mary Howitt. History Uttoxeter's name has been spelt at least 79 ways since it appeared in the Domesday Book of 1086 as "Wotocheshede": it probably came from Anglo-Saxon ''Wuttuceshǣddre'', meaning "Wuttuc's homestead on the heath". Some historians have pointed to pre- Roman settlement here; axes from the Bronze Age discovered in the town are now on display in the Potteries Museum in Stoke-on-Trent. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Marylebone Cricket Club
Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) is a cricket club founded in 1787 and based since 1814 at Lord's Cricket Ground, which it owns, in St John's Wood, London. The club was formerly the governing body of cricket retaining considerable global influence. In 1788, the MCC took responsibility for the laws of cricket, issuing a revised version that year. Changes to these Laws are now determined by the International Cricket Council (ICC), but the copyright is still owned by MCC. When the ICC was established in 1909, it was administered by the secretary of the MCC, and the president of MCC automatically assumed the chairmanship of ICC until 1989. Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1964 was the cricket season when the English club Derbyshire had been playing for ninety three years. It was their sixtieth season in the County Championship and they won five matches to finish twelfth in the County Championship. In the second year of the Gillette Cup they were eliminated in round 1. 1964 season Derbyshire played 28 games in the County Championship, one match against Oxford University, and one against the touring Australians. They won five first class matches altogether and lost in the initial round of the Gillette Cup. Charles Lee was in his second season as captain. Derek Morgan was top scorer and Brian Jackson took most wickets. Dorset County Cricket Club is one of twenty National county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Dorset. The team is currently a member of the National Counties Cricket Association Championship Western Division 1 and plays in the National Counties Cricket Association Knockout Trophy.
