Rock 'n' Roll Gypsies
''Rock 'n' Roll Gypsies'' is the second live album by the band Saxon, released in 1989 by Roadrunner Records. It was the first album produced by Biff Byford. In the album's liner notes it is written that the album was "Recorded at Budapest Sports Hall and on the road in Eastern Europe", but the Budapest concert (on May 15, 1988) was the only concert on this tour in Eastern Europe. After the Destiny Europe and US tour from May 3, 1988, til September 3, 1988, Nigel Durham and Paul Johnson played their last Saxon concert at September 3, 1988, at Omni Club, Oakland, California, US. The lineup (with Nigel Glockler and Timothy "Nibbs" Carter) on the cover is the new lineup from 1989, when the album was released, not the lineup from the live performances on the album. In 2001 it was re-released with a different cover and two additional tracks, and with production credited to the whole band and not just to Byford. Saxon are an English heavy metal music, heavy metal band formed in Barnsley in 1975. As leaders of the new wave of British heavy metal (NWOBHM), they had eight UK Top 40 albums during the 1980s including four UK Top 10 albums and two Top 5 albums. Roadrunner Records is a Dutch–American record label focused on Heavy metal music, heavy metal and hard rock music. Founded in the Netherlands in 1980, it is now a division of Warner Music Group and is based in New York City. Enigma Records (also known as Enigma Entertainment Corporation) was a popular rock and alternative American record label in the 1980s. History Enigma Records launched as a division of Greenworld Distribution, an independent music importer/distributor, in 1981. Biff Byford
Peter Rodney "Biff" Byford (born 15 January 1951) is an English singer best known as the lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Saxon. Early life Byford was born in Skelmanthorpe, West Yorkshire, the youngest of four children to Ernest Charles and Irene Byford. He has a brother, a half-sister from his father's side, Enid, who is 20 years older than him and a half-brother Michael from his mother. Byford was just 11 years old when his mother died. "Being so young," he says, "it was a crushing blow. But that, I think, is when that will to survive was built in." Only two years later his father, whom Byford describes as a violent alcoholic, suffered a terrible accident while at work at a textile mill, losing an arm after it was entangled in a piece of heavy machinery. Destiny (Saxon Album)
''Destiny'' is the ninth studio album by English heavy metal band Saxon, released in March 1988. It is also the only studio album to feature the rhythm section of drummer Nigel Durham (later in Oliver/Dawson Saxon and Morpheus Rising) and bassist Paul Johnson (former Heritage, later in U.S.I. and Demon) on it. The album was produced by Stephan Galfas (Stryper, Cher, Savatage) and the last studio album Saxon recorded for EMI who dropped the band when the album sales were disappointing. During the tour for this album, Durham and Johnson were sacked and replaced in 1988 by bassist Nibbs Carter and a returning Nigel Glockler on drums who finished the tour. Durham stated in a 2015 interview with Glenn Milligan of Metalliville that "EMI & the Producer were trying to make the band more commercial and radio friendly and that just isn't Saxon." It was released in 1990, just one year after their previous live album ''Rock 'n' Roll Gypsies'' to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the band's successful career since their second album Wheels of Steel (1980), together with a VHS of the concert.
