Rock'a'ula
''Rock'a'ula'' is the only studio album by Brazilian rock band Os Cascavelletes, released in 1989 by Odeon Records. Produced by former Barão Vermelho bassist Dé Palmeira, it is considered a seminal work of the Rio Grande do Sul rock scene of the mid-1980s/early 1990s and spawned numerous hits which were very popular at the time of their release and are still remembered to this day, such as "Jessica Rose" (which originally appeared as a live bonus track on the band's 1988 self-titled EP), the infamous "Eu Quis Comer Você", "Lobo da Estepe" (which was inspired by Hermann Hesse's 1927 novel '' Steppenwolf'') and "Nêga Bombom", included in the soundtrack of the 1989–90 Rede Globo ''telenovela'' ''Top Model''. It was the band's first release with keyboardist Humberto Petinelli and without original bassist Frank Jorge, who left them the year prior to focus on his other project, Graforreia Xilarmônica. Os Cascavelletes
Os Cascavelletes were a Brazilian rock group from Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. One of the first rock bands from Rio Grande do Sul to acquire mainstream success nationwide alongside its "sister project" TNT, they were characterized by their irreverent style inspired by 1950s-era rockabilly culture and acts such as The Rolling Stones and The Beatles, and by their comical, profanity- and sex-laden lyrics (in a musical style self-described as " porno rock"). Some of their most famous compositions are "Sob um Céu de Blues", "Menstruada", "Estou Amando uma Mulher", "Eu Quis Comer Você" and the 1989 hit "Nêga Bombom". Os Cascavelletes (EP)
''Os Cascavelletes'' is the eponymous debut EP by Brazilian rock band Os Cascavelletes, self-released in 1988. The EP contains six tracks; three ("Menstruada", "Morte por Tesão" and "Ugagogobabagô") were re-recorded from their 1987 demo tape '' Vórtex Demo'', while the remaining were new compositions. "Estou Amando uma Mulher" became a major hit in radios of the time after extensive airplay, while "Menstruada" was forbidden to play in radios because of its sexually explicit content. Bassist Frank Jorge parted ways with the band soon after the EP's release to focus on his alternate project Graforreia Xilarmônica. Live bonus track "Jessica Rose" would be re-recorded for the band's subsequent release, '' Rock'a'ula''. Nei Van Soria
Nei Van Soria (born October 5, 1969) is a Brazilian singer-songwriter, lyricist, pianist, guitarist and record producer, famous for his work with pioneering Rio Grande do Sul rock bands TNT and Os Cascavelletes. Biography Van Soria was born in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul on October 5, 1969. His first musical ventures were with rock band TNT, founded in 1984 by childhood friends Flávio Basso, Charles Master, Márcio Petracco ,and Felipe Jotz. In 1985 TNT took part in the critically acclaimed compilation '' Rock Grande do Sul'', released by RCA Records; however, Basso and Van Soria were unhappy with RCA, citing numerous creative divergences between them and the label, and so they left TNT to form their own project, Os Cascavelletes, in 1987. Van Soria began his solo career shortly after Os Cascavelletes broke up, in 1992. Jupiter Apple
Flávio Basso (26 January 1968 – 21 December 2015), better known by his stage name Júpiter Maçã and by its English-language variation Jupiter Apple, was a Brazilian singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and filmmaker. Before beginning a solo career in 1994, he was already known for being a founding member of bands TNT (Brazilian band), TNT and Os Cascavelletes, both pioneers of the Rio Grande do Sul rock scene in the mid-to-late 1980s/early 1990s. Telenovela
A telenovela is a type of a television serial drama or soap opera produced primarily in Latin America. The word combines ''tele'' (for "television") and ''novela'' (meaning "novel"). Similar drama genres around the world include '' teleserye'' (Philippines), '' téléroman'' (Canada, specifically Quebec), and '' sinetron'' (Indonesia). Commonly described using the American colloquialism Spanish soap opera, many telenovelas share some stylistic and thematic similarities to the soap opera familiar to the English-speaking world. The significant difference is their series run length; telenovelas tell one self-contained story, typically within the span of a year or less whereas soap operas tend to have intertwined storylines told during indefinite, continuing runs. "Rock-A-Hula Baby ("Twist" Special)" is a 1961 song recorded by Elvis Presley and performed in the 1961 film ''Blue Hawaii''. The song was also released as a single. Graforreia Xilarmônica is a Brazilian Prêmio Açorianos-winning rock group from Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. Famous for their humorous, unpretentious lyrics and for their sonority influenced by 1960s-era bands, the ''Jovem Guarda'' movement and traditional ''gaúcho'' music, they amassed a strong cult following throughout the 1980s and 1990s which lasts to the present day.
