Bob Thompson (musician)
Robert Lamar Thompson (August 24, 1924 – May 21, 2013) was a composer, arranger, and orchestra leader from the 1950s through the 1980s. Active in Los Angeles, Thompson was a recording artist for RCA Victor and Dot Records, scored film and television soundtracks, and wrote musical accompaniments for commercials. He composed, arranged, and conducted the orchestra for such wide-ranging artists as Rosemary Clooney, Mae West, Julie London, Bing Crosby, The Andrews Sisters, Chet Atkins, Duane Eddy, Judy Garland, Jerry Lewis, and Phil Ochs. In an interview, Van Dyke Parks, who hired Thompson to arrange "Canon in D" for his 1976 album ''Clang of the Yankee Reaper'', said: "In terms of raw invention, I place Bob in the pantheon of Spike Jones, Les Paul, and Juan García Esquivel. Like Beethoven, they were 'populists' in good heart. They meant to appeal to the masses, and did so, by enlightening them." Robert Randall Thompson (born May 10, 1962) is an American former professional baseball player and coach. He played his entire career in Major League Baseball (1986–1996) as the second baseman for the San Francisco Giants. During the Giants' resurgence in the late 1980s, he was known as a team leader who played with a gritty determination. Thompson later coached for the Giants, Cleveland Indians, and Seattle Mariners. Bob Thompson (May 7, 1981 in Framingham, Massachusetts) is the current head coach of Boston College. He previously played professionally with the New England Revolution before coaching at Northeastern, Tufts, and UMass Lowell as an assistant. Playing career Thompson was a midfielder for the Boston College Eagles from 1999 to 2003. The team had a 46-29-3 record during his four seasons as a player. Robert Atkinson Thompson (5 September 1890 – 1 June 1969) was an English footballer who played as a centre forward in the Football League for Preston North End, Leeds United, Ashington, Luton Town, Accrington Stanley, Bury, Tranmere Rovers and Hartlepools United. He was a member of the inaugural Leeds United side, was the team's top scorer in their first season, and scored the team's first hat-trick. Robert Thompson (27 February 1890 – 3 July 1958) was an English professional footballer who made 154 appearances in the Football League playing as a full back for Leicester Fosse, Everton, Millwall and Tranmere Rovers. Robert Townshend Thompson (1792–August 9, 1887) was a Virginia lawyer, planter and politician in Fairfax County, Virginia, which he represented in the Virginia House of Delegates for nearly a decade (1816–1825). Robert M. Thompson (November 25, 1927 – June 1, 1999) was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly. Biography Thompson was born in Madison, Wisconsin. He graduated from Poynette High School in Poynette, Wisconsin. Later, he joined the United States Marshals Service. As a U.S. marshal, Thompson was in charge of law enforcement at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin in 1980, when it was used as an internment camp for Cuban refugees admitted as part of the Mariel boatlift.
