Robert McCurdy (born 1952) is an American artist known for his photorealistic oil paintings and photographs of notable figures in contemporary history. Among works held in the collections of the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C., are paintings of Toni Morrison, Jane Goodall, Neil Armstrong, and others. In 2002, McCurdy was commissioned to paint a portrait of US Representative Martin Sabo for the US Capitol. He completed the official White House painting of former President Barack Obama in 2018. Robert B. McCurdy (April 16, 1836July 13, 1896) was a Canadian American immigrant, businessman, and Republican politician. He was a member of the Wisconsin State Senate, representing Winnebago County during the 1873 and 1874 sessions, and served in several state government administrative roles. Background McCurdy was born April 16, 1836, in the Saint Patrick Parish, New Brunswick, to Chandler and Rachel Simpson McCurdy. He came to Oshkosh with his parents in 1850, and settled there. He received a public school education, but left school at age 15, and went to work chopping timber and running an engine in a sawmill. On October 27, 1858, he married Catherine Vosburg, a native of Warren, New York. About the same time, he opened a grocery store. He became an active member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He amassed great wealth with partner Herman D. Aldrich as the co-founder of McCurdy and Aldrich, a commission firm which traded Southern cotton and other dry goods prior to the Panic of 1857. He lost his bid for Congress as a Whig in the late 1850s, and served as Commissary-General for the State of New York during the American Civil War. Robert McCurdy (February 26, 1952July 29, 2020) was an American college basketball player for the Richmond Spiders from 1973 to 1975. He began his collegiate career with the Virginia Cavaliers before transferring to Richmond. McCurdy was the nation's leading scorer during his senior season of 1974–75, averaging 32.9 points per game for the Spiders. He became a radio sales and management executive after college.
