Robert Jocelyn, 2nd Earl Of Roden
Robert Jocelyn, 2nd Earl of Roden KP, PC (Ire) (26 October 1756 – 29 June 1820) was an Irish peer, soldier and politician. He was styled The Honourable from his birth to 1771, and then Viscount Jocelyn from 1771 to 1797. He was the eldest son of the 1st Earl of Roden and Lady Anne Hamilton, daughter of James Hamilton, 1st Earl of Clanbrassil. He was a professional soldier, and the company of dragoons he commanded, nicknamed "the Foxhunters", gained much notoriety during the Irish Rebellion of 1798. In particular, they played a leading role in the Gibbet Rath massacre at the Curragh of Kildare on 29 May 1798, where 350–500 insurgents, who had surrendered, were killed in cold blood. In defence of Roden it can be said that he acted on the orders of his superior officer, General Duff, and that the action was widely condoned at the time. Order Of St Patrick
The Most Illustrious Order of Saint Patrick is a dormant British order of chivalry associated with Ireland. The Order was created in 1783 by King George III at the request of the then Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, George Nugent-Temple-Grenville, 1st Marquess of Buckingham, the 3rd Earl Temple (later created Marquess of Buckingham). The regular creation of knights of the Order lasted until 1922, when most of Ireland gained independence as the Irish Free State, a dominion within what was then known as the British Commonwealth of Nations. While the Order technically still exists, no knight of St Patrick has been created since 1936, and the last surviving knight, Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, died in 1974. Charles III, however, remains the Sovereign of the Order, and one officer, the Ulster King of Arms (now represented in the office of Norroy and Ulster King of Arms), also survives. Robert Bligh ( 1704 – 1778) was an Irish Anglican dean in the 18th century. William Conyngham (of Politician)
William Burton Conyngham (1733 – 31 May 1796) was an Anglo-Irish politician. Life He was born William Burton, the second son of Francis Burton and Mary Conyngham, sister of Henry Conyngham, 1st Earl Conyngham. In 1781, his name was changed by Royal Licence to inherit the estates of his uncle. He was a student at Queens' College, Cambridge from 1750 and in turn at Lincoln's Inn from 1753, he then proceeded to follow a military career, being commissioned as a Captain in 1759, and by 1769 he had advanced to Lieutenant-Colonel in the 12th Dragoons. He resigned his Regular Army commission in 1774, but in April 1793 he was appointed Colonel to raise and command the new Prince of Wales's Own Donegal Militia. Conyngham was a longtime Member of Parliament. From 1761 to 1777 he represented Newtown Limavady, from 1776 to 1777 as well as from 1783 to 1790 Killybegs. Hunt Walsh
General Hunt Walsh (1720 – 28 February 1795) was a British soldier and politician. Since the 1630s his family had owned lands in Ireland at Ballykilcavan, near Stradbally, Queen's County (now County Laois). He served as an officer in the 28th Regiment of Foot, rising to the rank of major in May 1753, and appointed to the lieutenant-colonelcy on 2 February 1757. During the Seven Years' War he commanded that regiment in North America, where it fought at the capture of Louisbourg and the Battle of the Plains of Abraham. He was promoted to the rank of colonel in 1760, and appointed to the colonelcy of the 56th Regiment of Foot in 1766, a post he would hold for almost thirty years. He was promoted to major-general in 1772, lieutenant-general in 1777, and full general in 1793. Between 1764 and 1776, he represented Maryborough in the Irish House of Commons. Sir John Parnell, 1st Baronet (c. 1720–1782), was an Irish politician and a baronet. Biography He was the only son of John Parnell (1680–1727), Esq., MP and later Judge of the Court of King's Bench (Ireland), and Mary, sister of the Lord Chief-Justice William Whitshed. His uncle, the Rev. Thomas Parnell was the archdeacon of Clogher in 1705, prebendary of Dublin in 1713, vicar of Finglas in 1718, and poet, friend of Alexander Pope and Jonathan Swift. Weetwood is an area between Headingley and Meanwood in north-west Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It is bounded on the north by the A6120 (Outer Ring Road), on the west by the A660 (Otley Road), on the east by Meanwood Beck and to the south by Hollin Lane. Richard Wingfield, 5th Viscount Powerscourt
Richard Wingfield, 5th Viscount Powerscourt (11 September 1790 – 9 August 1823) was an Anglo-Irish peer. He was the son of Richard Wingfield, 4th Viscount Powerscourt and Lady Catherine Meade, daughter of John Meade, 1st Earl of Clanwilliam. On 19 July 1809 he succeeded to his father's titles in the Peerage of Ireland. In 1821, he was elected as an Irish representative peer and took his seat in the House of Lords. In August 1821 Powerscourt hosted George IV at his family home, Powerscourt House, in County Wicklow. His time in the Lords was ended by his premature death in 1823. Powerscourt married twice; firstly to Lady Frances Theodosia Jocelyn, daughter of Robert Jocelyn, 2nd Earl of Roden and Frances Theodosia Bligh, on 6 February 1813.
