Sir Robert Jardine, 1st Baronet (24 May 1825 – 17 February 1905) was a Scottish businessman and Liberal politician. Life Jardine was born at Edinburgh the son of David Jardine of Muir House, Lockerbie, Dumfries and his wife Rachel Johnstone. In 1865 he became head of Jardine, Matheson and Co., one of the largest Far East trading houses based in Hong Kong. At the general election in July 1865, Jardine was elected as Member of Parliament (MP) for Ashburton in Devon where his uncle William Jardine had been an earlier MP. The Ashburton constituency was abolished at the 1868 general election and he was elected instead at Dumfries Burghs. In 1874 he changed seat again and stood unsuccessfully for Dumfriesshire Dumfriesshire or the County of Dumfries or Shire of Dumfries (''Siorrachd Dhùn Phris'' in Gaelic) is a historic county and registration county in southern Scotland. Robert Jardine (12 January 1812 – 16 June 1866) was a Scottish-Canadian businessman and railroad promoter in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. Biography He was born 12 January 1812 to Alexander Jardine, a mason, and Helen Davidson Girvan, Ayrshire, Scotland. Jardine emigrated to Canada in the 1830s, sailing from Ayr to St. John, New Brunswick, and was soon employed by grocer Barnabas Tilton. His younger brother, Alexander, joined him in St. John, and the pair bought Tilton's business, entering into partnership as Jardine & Co., which grew into a significant import business.I. Robert J. Jardine (1864–1941) was a Scottish footballer who played in The Football League for Derby County and Notts County. He is the first player to score five goals in a football league match when Notts County beat Burnley on 27 October 1888. Early career Two sources state Jardine was born in the Glasgow/Partick area of Central Scotland, one source stating the birth year as 1864. Having consulted the National Records of Scotland archive there was a Robert Jardine born in Partick in 1864 but with no middle name. Another source states he was Robert Joseph and born in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1865 but, on the balance of evidence, Jardine had no middle name. A Robert Jardine was married in the Manchester area in 1887, and Jardine was playing for Halliwell in the 1887–1888 season. Halliwell is a suburb of Bolton. Robert Jardine (surgeon)
Prof Robert Jardine FRSE FRCPSG (1862–1932) was a Nova Scotian who came to fame in Scotland as Professor of Midwifery at St Mungo's College in Glasgow. Life He was born in Jardineville on the Richibucto River in New Brunswick on 30 January 1862 the son of Thomas Jardine, shipbuilder, nephew of the founder of the town (in 1816), John Jardine. He attended Mount Allison College in New Brunswick then travelled to Scotland to finish his medical studies at the University of Edinburgh, graduating with an MD in 1889. He set up private practice in Glasgow around 1890 at 3 Houldsworth Street and was living at 5 Clifton Terrace (now demolished). By 1910 he was living at 20 Royal Crescent in a Georgian terraced house in the Kelvingrove district. He also operated at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and lectured at its educational branch St Mungo's College. In 1901 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
