Vice-Admiral Robert Clutterbuck Davenport CB (13 April 1882 – 15 June 1965) was a Royal Navy officer who became Commander-in-Chief, Coast of Scotland. Naval career Educated on HMS ''Britannia'', Davenport joined the Royal Navy as a cadet in 1896. He was confirmed as a sub-lieutenant on 15 April 1901, served in the Second Boer War and World War I. Abingdon-on-Thames ( ), commonly known as Abingdon, is a historic market town and civil parish in the ceremonial county of Oxfordshire, England, on the River Thames. Historically the county town of Berkshire, since 1974 Abingdon has been administered by the Vale of White Horse district within Oxfordshire. The area was occupied from the early to middle Iron Age and the remains of a late Iron Age and Roman defensive enclosure lies below the town centre. Abingdon Abbey was founded around 676, giving its name to the emerging town. In the 13th and 14th centuries, Abingdon was an agricultural centre with an extensive trade in wool, alongside weaving and the manufacture of clothing. Charters for the holding of markets and fairs were granted by various monarchs, from Edward I to George II. Convoy commodore also known as commodore, convoys was the title of a civilian put in charge of the good order of the merchant ships in the British convoys used during World War II. Usually the convoy commodore was a retired naval officer or a senior merchant captain drawn from the Royal Naval Reserve. He was aboard one of the merchant ships. The Most Honourable Order of the Bath is a British order of chivalry founded by George I on 18 May 1725. The name derives from the elaborate medieval ceremony for appointing a knight, which involved bathing (as a symbol of purification) as one of its elements. The knights so created were known as "Knights of the Bath". George I "erected the Knights of the Bath into a regular Military Order". Vice Admiral Evelyn Claude Ogilvie Thomson (13 April 1884 – 21 December 1942) was a Royal Navy officer who became Commander-in-Chief, Coast of Scotland. His grave is at Abdie Churchyard, Fife. Naval career Thomson joined the Royal Navy as a cadet in 1899. He served in World War I and commanded the destroyer at the Battle of Jutland. Royal Naval Reserve
The Royal Naval Reserve (RNR) is one of the two volunteer reserve forces of the Royal Navy in the United Kingdom. Together with the Royal Marines Reserve, they form the Maritime Reserve. The present RNR was formed by merging the original Royal Naval Reserve, created in 1859, and the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (RNVR), created in 1903.
