Road To The Horse
Road to the Horse is an annual colt-starting competition held at the Alltech Arena in the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. Three trainers are invited to choose a colt from a remuda of untouched three-year old Quarter Horses provided by the American Quarter Horse Association. They then have a specified amount of time over three days to gently get a saddle and tack on the colt and ride it. Road to the Horse is owned and produced by Tootie Bland. Alltech Arena
The Alltech Arena is a 5,517-seat multi-purpose arena in Lexington, Kentucky. The facility, named for the title sponsor Alltech, opened on the grounds of the Kentucky Horse Park in July 2009. It was originally constructed for the 2010 FEI World Equestrian Games. The arena is owned by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and is managed by the Kentucky Horse Park. Clinton Anderson (horse Trainer)
Clinton Anderson is an Australian-American natural horsemanship practitioner. He created a training program known as Downunder Horsemanship. He is featured in a number of magazine articles on horse training, has written a book about his methods, is a clinician who tours the United States, and has a television program on RFD-TV as well as an internet TV presence. Early life Anderson was born and raised in Australia. He left school at age 15 to begin a series of apprenticeships with several Australian horse trainers. Three years later, he opened his own training facility. Career Anderson moved to the United States in 1996. In 1997 he began teaching nationwide horsemanship clinics. Craig Cameron (born 1949) is an American horse trainer. He won the Road to the Horse colt-starting contest in 2010 and has been inducted into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame. Life Cameron was born in 1949 in Texas and grew up on a ranch. He currently lives in Bluff Dale, Texas, with his wife. Career Cameron competed in rodeo for many years. He rode at the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association level and specialized in bull riding. Cameron later began training horses and giving clinics on reining, training young horses and Western riding. He also founded the Extreme Cowboy Race and hosts a program on RFD-TV. Richard Winters (horse Trainer)
Richard Davis Winters (January 21, 1918January 2, 2011) was an American businessman and decorated war veteran who served as an officer in the United States Army during World War II. He is best known for having served with and later commanding Easy Company of the 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, part of the 101st Airborne Division. He received fast promotion during the war, eventually being promoted to major and placed in command of the regiment's 2nd Battalion. As a first lieutenant, Winters parachuted into Normandy in the early hours of D-Day, June 6, 1944, and later fought across France, the Netherlands, Belgium, and eventually Germany. After Germany's surrender in May 1945, he left the 506th and was stationed in France, where senior officers were needed to oversee the return home. Chris Cox is an American horse trainer. Cox has won the Road to the Horse competition four times and gives clinics in the United States. Life Cox was born in Kissimmee, Florida and moved to Australia with his family at age one. In Australia he lived on a large cattle ranch, before returning to America as an adult. Stacy Westfall
Stacy Westfall (born September 26, 1974) is a professional horse trainer who specializes in reining. In 2006, she became the first woman to compete in and win the Road to the Horse competition. In 2006, she also won the All American Quarter Horse Congress Freestyle Reining competition on the black mare, Whizards Baby Doll, riding both bridleless and bareback. Early life and career Westfall grew up in South China, Maine. While her parents were not horse professionals, her mother was her instructor until Westfall went to college at the University of Findlay in Ohio. Kentucky Horse Park
Kentucky Horse Park is a working horse farm, international equestrian competition venue, and an educational theme park opened in 1978 in Lexington, Kentucky. It is located off Kentucky State Highway 1973 (Iron Works Pike) and Interstate 75, at Exit 120, in northern Fayette County in the United States. Saddle
The saddle is a supportive structure for a rider of an animal, fastened to an animal's back by a girth. The most common type is equestrian. However, specialized saddles have been created for oxen, camels and other animals. It is not known precisely when riders first began to use some sort of padding or protection, but a blanket attached by some form of surcingle or girth was probably the first "saddle", followed later by more elaborate padded designs. The solid saddle tree was a later invention, and though early stirrup designs predated the invention of the solid tree, the paired stirrup, which attached to the tree, was the last element of the saddle to reach the basic form that is still used today.
