Rings (2005 Film)
''Rings'' is a 2005 American supernatural horror short film directed by Jonathan Liebesman, who co-wrote with Ehren Kruger. It serves as a sequel to '' The Ring'' (2002) and a prelude to the opening sequence of ''The Ring Two'' (2005), both written by Kruger. The film was initially released on March 8, 2005, as an extra disc with a re-release of the first film on DVD. Plot Sometime after the events of '' The Ring'', Samara Morgan's videotape has spread, as each person who sees the video makes a copy and shows it to someone else. A subculture has grown surrounding the video: people wait to see how close to the seven-day deadline they can get. When they grow too afraid to go on any longer, they show the tape to the next assigned person. Groups that have watched the video are called "rings". Jonathan Liebesman
Jonathan Liebesman (born 15 September 1976) is a South African film director and screenwriter. He is known for directing the films ''Darkness Falls (2003 film), Darkness Falls'' (2003), ''The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning'' (2006), ''Battle: Los Angeles'' (2011), ''Wrath of the Titans'' (2012), and ''Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014 film), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'' (2014). Personal life Liebesman was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. He studied filmmaking at the AFDA, The South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance and at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. He is Jewish. His cousin is director Dean Israelite. At Tisch, he co-wrote and directed an 8-minute short film, ''Genesis and Catastrophe'', adapted from a Roald Dahl short story. The film was screened at numerous festivals around the world, and in 2000 won an award in the category of 'best short' at the Austin Film Festival. Samara Morgan
is a fictional character and the main antagonist of Koji Suzuki (writer), Koji Suzuki's Ring (novel series), ''Ring'' novel series and its The Ring (franchise), eponymous film series. Her backstory varies between continuities, but all depict her as the Onryō, vengeful ghost of a young psychic who was murdered and thrown into a well. As a ghost, she is dressed in a simple white dress with long black hair hiding her face, and uses , her most distinctive power, to create a cursed videotape; whoever watches the tape will be haunted by Sadako and die exactly one week later unless the tape is copied and shown to another person, who must then repeat the same process. The titular "ring" from the novels and films refers to a ring-like visual that appears on the cursed videotape, which actually depicts the top of the well as seen by Sadako from its bottom.
